I have been given some Abbey Malt. I have seen very few recipes using it, but was just wondering if anyone here has used it, if so tell me how you used it, in what beer, the amount and if you liked using it. Thanks
I have been looking at a chart that includes Diastatic power of grains. I am wondering if it has no Diastatic power if those are the ones that would be steeped in an all grain brew. For example I have a recipe that in only maris otter with Crystal 40, Crystal 120 and roasted Barley. If the...
I have a HERMS coil that everytime I clean it lateley or brew with it there seems to be a lot of what looks like grain flake residue that come out of it. I clean it every time after a brew with PBW and sanatize with Starsan, I have had this for many years but in the last few months this has...
My club was given a 30 gallon Sqarrell (HOME | Squarrel). Not sure how to clean this. I have a chugger pump 7GPM, is there a CIP ball that would work with that pump to clean a 30 gallon Squarrel? Looking for any other ideas from all those Brew Brains out there.
checking out craftbeerpi, haven't bought anything yet, just checking it out. Looking at the wiring diagram at "craftbeerpi.com/hardware" there is an extension board below the diagram. Is this extension board needed? Can the respberry pi 4 handle the load?
If a person (me) makes 2 beers one with let's say OG=1.120 and another one with a gravity of let's say 1.092 and mix them together, what would be the final of the beer that was mixed with the two beers? and how do I figure that out?
Not brewing this just thinking about "what if".
just measured my 3 gallon carboy: the carboy weighs 9.94 lb and a of water weighs 8.34 lb. So one gallon in my carboy weighs 18.28 lb. with one gallon in it. 2 gallons is 26.62 lb and 3 gallon is 34.96 lb. The 34.96 gallons of water goes all the way up to the opening in the top of the carboy...

I havent tried this, but I have heard that you can carbonate in a keg using the same way you would in bottles and not using CO2 to carbonate. Let me know if this is a good way to do it.
I think that once long ago I found something that said you use less priming sugar in a keg than in bottles. I...
Question for all you Judges out there:
Would the 2021 BJCP style for a Belgian Quad be the same as a Belgian Dark Strong? Tying to make a Westverleteren 12 and wish to follow the 2021 BJCP style.
I have a 115 volt chugger pump and am looking at CIP spray balls. I have heard that some CIP spray balls need a larger pump then mine. I am looking for suggestions or even some education on what to look for that would work for me. I would need it to clean a 30 gallon Squarrel.
Thanks guys.
I know you guys are going to talk about not doing a secondary but for this subject lets go for a secondary. I understand that using fresh krausan in the secondary or for carbonating is a thing. Seems that fresh krausan in the secondary will help clean up some off flavors. So here are my thought...
I have American oak staves that are medium toast and no char. I want to add these to stout and wondering if toasting makes a difference. They have not been in bourbon or whisky but are fresh.
Should I try to char them? I was told for beer the char doesn't matter only if used for whisky or...
I am getting ready to ferment under pressure with a keg but have a few questions first.
1) What kind of beers do best and worst for fermenting under pressure?
2) when fermenting under pressure with lagers do I ferment at 50 F like I normally do, or leave it at room temp (67 f)?
3) Is there a...
I have been looking at brewing with RO water. I have the Book "Modern Homebrew Recipes" by Gordon Strong, most of the recipies call only for a tsp of CaCl (Calcium Cloride) and a few get CaSo (Calcium Sulphate) also. This seems like some minerals are missing when I do a water calcualtor. Please...
