    What are you drinking now?

Month 4 of the Beermeister32 reduction program (46 lbs to date) brings us Guinness Non-Alcoholic Draught beer. The funny thing about drinking Guinness in the first place is the comments you get from non-beer drinkers – Wow, that Stout must be a heavy beer, how can you drink it? We all know...

Did I ruin my NZ pilsner?

    Don’t sweat it….

Is it just me or are bottled conditioned Homebrew better than kegged?

There are advantages to both methods. It would be hard to say one is categorically better. Might be your bottling is scavenging stray oxygen. Sometimes good to age on the bottled yeast a bit for further cleanup. Kegs are so easy though and have their benefits too.

    Octoberfest Aging?

I keg the lager with a sugar charge and let it naturally carbonate at room temperature for a couple weeks. Then into the lagering refrigerator at 34F for 90 days. I inject the kegs with gelatin around 2 months or so, timing not critical. Put the keg on CO2, 9 lbs, 38F and tap. Start tasting...

    What are you drinking now?

One great thing about dieting is that I get to drink in some of the best diet N/A beers out there, one’s I’d never have given a second glance. N/A is for non-alcohol, not “Not Applicable!" Also some might argue the latter when we are talking diet beers! Today’s snack is a couple Corona N/A’s...

    What are you drinking now?

Well it’s been several months since my DecemberFest Lager and IPA Fests, which took a toll on the old BeerMeister. Doctor said “Lose the Dad Bod”. I think those high ABV IPA’s really did a number on me. So, here I am, BeerMeister2.0 back in the saddle, 42 lbs lighter. I did it “old school”...

Mini Kegs with Non threaded CO2 cartridges

64 oz is such a small amount of beer, I’d be inclined to save some 2 liter soda bottles. You can fill them with beer and a sugar priming charge and they will carbonate and hold the charge nicely. You can also purge the bottle air by squeezing slightly and tightening the cap. The bottle will...

Kviek yeast for lagers...talk to me

Hard to beat WLP 833 for German Lagers and 90 days maturation. My favorite! For a quickie - I've used Kviek before on IPA's. The OYL-091 Hornindal Kviek worked great, the tropical esters worked fine in a flavorful IPA. Super easy and speedy to use too. Definite use for those impatient...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Timothy Taylor Landord. I brewed up a few batches and after a few tweaks it was spot on. Wish I could find it in SoCal these days, haven’t seen it in a number of years.

    Best investment in brewery?

Best investment “bang for the buck” is a Craigslist refrigerator. Use a digital temp control. I can dial in any temperature from freezing to ambient. Great for fermentation control.

    Hops for pills

I did a Citra Pils once, turned out FANTASTIC. Need to do it again!
