    Mash tun too big??

Are you preheating the mash tun? Since it has such a large thermal mass, you need to soak it in hot tap water for about 30 before use and drain just before mashing in Thats what I did with my 5 gallon one and it held like a champ

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

Well, the 90 minute mash which started at 150.5 and dropping to 149 kicked up my efficiency +12% more than normal I ended up having to add 3/4 gallons water to dilute back to target gravity. I'll keep the thread posted on the attenuation

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

My current setup is designed with Low oxygen brewing in mind. Batch sparging isn't compatible with low oxygen brewing unfortunately. I don't care too much about the lower efficiency as long as it's predictable and on target with my recipe design. My mash tun has the volume for extra grain. I...

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

Nice! I'm going to plan to mash for 90 min at 150F in an insulated mash tun. My mash tun (capable thermobarrel) maintains temp within half a degree in an hour. Figure the extended time should help with conversion on the rice and add a slight gain in attenuation and efficiency My grain bill...

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

    What was your mash temp?

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

Good to know. I'll probably mash lower and longer since I want a highly ferementable wort.

Flaked Rice - attenuation & mash time

Does flaked rice yield higher attenuation than barley malt? Is it recommended to mash flaked rice longer than barley to achieve full conversation? I always thought flaked rice increased attenuation more than malted barley, but was surprised when I came across a brulosophy experiment where the...

    Connecting two Gas Lines

I've gone as high as 30 PSI without issues However, I have never tested leaving connected for extended periods of time The general application I've used them for is for purging lines and spunding valves. I did use them once with that same tubing to create a ball lock adapter on a Sankey keg...

    Connecting two Gas Lines

I just connect two carbonation caps together with tubing This is super handy. I use it for purging transfer lines and my spunding valves of O2 before hooking up to my fermenter / kegs

    Duotight ball disconnects - experiences?

Thanks. Wouldn't it make so much more sense if the just had a flathead slot like the CMBs or could take a spanner wrench like their carbonation caps

    Duotight ball disconnects - experiences?

Both liquid and gas. I'd say it happens 1/5 times. I generally am careful on most of my kegging gear as not to overnighten as not to strip threads

    Duotight ball disconnects - experiences?

Does anyone know of a tool I can use to unscrew the cap when disassembling the disconnects? Its supposed to be done by hand, but sometimes its just not possible with sticky build up. Generally I'm able to gently use a needle nose pliers, but that even sometimes doesn't work. Its annoying they...

soaking oak chips in bourbon, discard bourbon or add all?

I can attest that Jerry's bourbon stout is delicious

soaking oak chips in bourbon, discard bourbon or add all?

I've been having success aging 5 gallons of beer in a keg on 2oz oak CUBES for 2 to 5 months Cubes extract at a much slower rate than chips. I add 2oz bourbon to the cubes about an hour before kegging to sanitize the cubes and then toss everything in There's another thread on here you can...

Calculate weight of beer per gallon

I prime my kegs with sugar nowadays , but like to leave a little headspace so I can fit up to 16oz of priming sugar solution. I inject it via the gas post and my gas diptubes are trimmed, but still like to leave a little extra to account for thermal expansion. My kegs to the brim hold about...
