    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Sediment was in primary. Racked to secondary already. Sample was taken from bottom of primary. That most likely explains the excess bitterness. I will update when I rack again in 30 days or so. Thanks

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

No stems. Quite a bit of sediment in the bottom, where I took my sample. I put a glass of it in fridge to settle a bit and seems better. I have heard it can be drank young, but also that aging benefits it. 🤷‍♂️ When I bottle, I will be bottling samples in 187 ml bottles for tasting as it ages...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Update on the blueberry wine. Had to be away for another 10 days. Checked SG of wine in primary and it hit .0990. Removed drip drained fruit bag and racked to a 5 gallon carboy for secondary. Took a small taste and it seems bitter. Any opinions on why it’s bitter? Had a small taste 10...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Update 4/19/2024 @ 11:45 am: No visible airlock activity. Stirred must, did not agitate fruit bag. SG = 1.067 @ 69 degs f. Corrects to 1.068. Airlock bubbling again. Lid not sealing consitantly is my educated guess, I guess! 😎 Averaging about 3 points/day gravity drop from start on...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

That sounds like a great idea! 😎 I had one, but it never seemed to work right. Going to try and squeeze that into next months budget. Blueberries listed as only ingredient. That’s what I thought. I had decided against heated it. Yeast packs were definitely old. Kept in refrigerator from day...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

I did not measure the acid before I started. Just added LD Carlson acid blend per the recipe. Tried measuring acid with strips, but they just turn purple from the must. 🤷‍♂️ Got the recipe here: https://winemakermag.com/article/making-blueberry-wine-tips-from-the-pros Been stirring at least...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Anyone have any ideas on how to salvage this ferment? Is it possible frozen blueberries were treated with preservative? Only Ingredients shown on label are “ high bush blueberries” Proofed yeast looked good. When added to must, fermentation falls flat. I get some signs or ferment after...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Update: Was going to pitch some EC1118 I have, but expired. Tried proofing it and nothing. I had 2 more packs of 71B, so I proofed 1 and it looked good. Tempered it with 1 tbls must every 10 minutes utill temp was close to must temp and was still looking good, so I pitched it. SG currently...

Recipes to suit supplies in hand?

No competitions for me, just some beer to drink on a warm day…. Or a cold day too! Definitely enjoy lighter styles, witbriers and Centenial blondes (thanks Biermuncher). Is Brewmate an app? Didn’t see it in the Playstore.

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Yeah, i forgot how long it had been in fridge! Realized it when I looked at it the date code when I was about to pitch! And being 3 1/2 hours from the closest LHBS, I ran it. At the time I found some info about brewers making fine beer with some old yeast, so I decided to gun it and run it! I...

    Blueberry wine sulphur smell

Fairly new to winemakkng. I have made some Chardenay from kits that was really good. That’s the extent of my experience with wine making. Started a blueberry wine and once I pitched and the yeast got to work, there is a sulphur smell coming from the bucket. Recipe obtained online from...

Recipes to suit supplies in hand?

My story is that my closest LHBS is 3 1/2 hours away, so I tend to purchase bulk quantities of ingredients so I don’t need to wait to travel near a LHBS or wait a week or more for online orders to ship and arrive. So, I find myself with extra ingredients and trying to make them fit a recipe...

    Gallons of cider made 2022

Has to be someone with an empty carboy earmarked for cider to put us over the 297 gallon mark! Ibrew2

Did Northern Brewer Purchase Austin Homebrew AND/OR Adventures in Brewing?

The word “could” means exactly that, they could be, not that they are or even probably are. As I stated in an earlier post, I am not posting empirical evidence of anything rather, engaging in a thought provoking exercise. Is that not what we do in open forums like this? My post are asking...

    Gallons of cider made 2022

6/16/22: Started a 6 gallon batch of Edworts apfelwein using 4 gallons of generic and 2 gallons of Treetop juice and 1 pack of Montrachet (aka Premiere Classique) yeast and .4 lbs/gallon dextrose. 6/17/22: Started a 3 gallon batch of cider with 96 ozs of grape juice added for a apple to grape...

Cider still fermenting after 50 days

Still not clear, but bottled on 7/3/22. Already starting to clear in neck of bottles. I am thinking the that the FAJC is what is causing the clarity issue I’m having. Anyone experience that? Ibrew2

Did Northern Brewer Purchase Austin Homebrew AND/OR Adventures in Brewing?

My comment saying those deals don’t mean much was in response to Kevin’s post saying that AB/InBev sold their interest in 2019, not a general response to those deals happening. The reality is that AB/InBev could still be a player in those aquisitions, weather publicly or through a shill company...

Did Northern Brewer Purchase Austin Homebrew AND/OR Adventures in Brewing?

Those deals don’t mean much. I saw a major grocery chain bought out by another grocery chain, only to have the buyout go the other direction years later. Corporate shell game. Point is, things aren’t always as they seem in corporate America. Ibrew2
