I believe they are 5mm, but can't recall the exact specs. Nothing special, though. Just some cheapies I picked up at my local electronics shop.
I've been away from this site for a while (been busy at work plus buying a house), but I do have updates on this project:
1) It's stained/sealed a...
Good luck with the project and post pics of it! As stated earlier, mine turned into a bit of a money pit, too. A used chest freezer with new temp controller would have been cheaper. Oh well, it was fun to build and that's what hobbies are all about!
I love checking in on your progress. It's looking great and thanks for keeping us in the loop!
BTW, I watched "The Naked City" (1948) last night and I agree it was a fantastic film. I imagine you'll have a big 1940's NY skyline print somewhere on the wall. :)
Oh, and sorry if this has...
That is incredible that 6 cornies fit in there like that. I think I now know exactly what freezer model to by when if when I build a keezer.
Nice build!
Wow, I guess i'm the only one who prys the lid just enough to squeak some gas out. It's not enough to bend the cap or anything, but really does require a wall-mounted opener to apply just the right amount of leverage. No re-capping necessary as you aren't exceeding the spring tension limit of...
I once tried outgassing some bottles of hefe, which were total gushers, by prying the cap a bit as you suggest. This little "burp" took the beer from certified gusher to being just stable enough to not gush, but still so freakin carbonated that it had the mouth feel of Coca Cola and required...
What used to be my least favorite thing when I brewed extract in the kitchen:
The inevitable little spills. cleaner, wort, sanitizer, they all ended up on the floor at some point and made it slippery, then sticky, and so part of the cleanup was mopping the kitchen floor afterwards. Now I brew...
I work with tri-clamps profesionally. They aren't difficult to use but definitely requires two hands and can be a handful to put on: i.e. hold mating flanges together and make sure gasket doesn't slip out and is seated properly with one hand, then use other hand to wrap coupling around mating...
The liver is pretty darn amazing, actually. it's the only organ with have that has genuine regeneration properties. There are a lot of studies out there on what it takes to damage the liver. I read one that concluded you have to be drinking the equivalent of a pint of whiskey a day on a regular...
If one of your stops is Northern Kentucky University, BrewWench and I could likely meet you for a stein at HofBrauHaus in Newport. Several other good beer bars in the area as well. In Louisville, I'd definitely recommend Bluegrass Brewing Company. I haven't been, but they've got some great beer.
I got my groomsmen personalized capcatchers. Most still have theirs stuck to their fridges 3 years later. They work great (got one for us too) and are, indeed, beer-related.
