Using OYL 044 for an IPA

Perfect. I wasn't sure if they were the same. Thanks

Using OYL 044 for an IPA

I'm going to pull the trigger and go for it but has anyone tried OYL 044 for an IPA? I've seen some folks having good results using WLP 029 (which I use with great results in my Kolsch sytle beers). If you have had good results what temp did you ferment at?

    Best Pink Floyd Song

Big time PF fan here. Not saying it's the best album because how do you pick just one album or one song, guitar lick, drum track, etc, but sometimes I have to listen to The Final Cut. We should have a Pink Floyd home brewing meetup...

    New Barrel Owner Tutorial?

If you'd like you can PM me and I can tell you what we do and hopefully answer any questions. I, along with two other friends, have been using 15 gallon bourbon barrels for some time. We recently packaged an old stock ale clone that sat for a year or so and all the feedback so far has been great.

    Stainless conical cleaning after infection

I've considered boiling/simmering parts on the stove maybe I'll give it a go although I'll avoid the lye for safety around the kids and integrity of the septic system. There is no substitute for good ole fashioned elbow grease. I'm heading out to the garage to get this mess cleaned up for my...

    Stainless conical cleaning after infection

I packaged a Kolsch directly from my Blichmann conical, life got in the way, the remains got infected, and now I have a mess to clean and sanitize. What is the most effective way to clean and sanitize it? I usually clean all my equipment right after brewing with Oxyclean and hot water and I'm...

    Dry hopping saved my beer

Here's the recipe. I suppose it wasn't a true whirlpool as I got the wort moving, added the hops, and let it sit for 30 minutes. batch: 4.5 gal yeast: OYL011 mashed for 60 min at 151 60 minute boil golden promise 5.75 munich 1.00 white wheat 1.00 C40...

    Dry hopping saved my beer

I recently brewed an IPA with a 1oz bittering addition of magum at 60 and the rest were whirlpool additions. I would have expected flavor and aroma but this beer had nothing, zilch, nada. I was not happy to say the least. I decided I would try dry hopping it just to see what the outcome would...

Do I actually have to "build" anything to have a working keezer?

These things are great too. I have one in my gun safe.

Do I actually have to "build" anything to have a working keezer?

Condensation was a problem until I started using these moisture absorbers. I've used these things since I started kegging and the internal moisture has never been a problem. I usually get about 16 months out of one.

Do I actually have to "build" anything to have a working keezer?

I would start out with a picnic tap and see how it works for you. Then there's this approach that has its merits. Brew up a bunch of beer and try it both ways. I started off using picnic taps with the goal of adding a collar and faucets. Along the way I realized that I never had a problem with...

    Diacetyl rest for first lager

What's the best/most accurate way to do this? I've read to take a sample, let it warm up to room temp and taste? Assuming a rest isn't needed, how would it hurt if I did one anyways?

    Diacetyl rest for first lager

Merry Christmas everyone. I used a decanted 3 liter starter for 5.5 gallons. I have to agree with this 110%. I hate to remove airlocks but this is ultimately the best way.

    Diacetyl rest for first lager

Would it be reasonable to move to a diacetyl rest now? I used WLP800 and fermented at 52 degrees. There was no mention of diacetyl production in the description of the yeast on their website. The beer was brewed two weeks ago and has gone from bubbles every 8 seconds or so to bubbles every...
