    Maltiness not coming through

I'm still fairly new to all grain and the three beers I've made all have a common flaw in them. They all lack body. Granted not all beers are suppose to be creamy and malty but I'm getting nothing. I can taste the other flavors but its so off balanced that its just not a very good beer...

Recipe calls for two vials of yeast...

If I get one and make a starter will it be enough to compensate for not having the other one? Trying to save $6.50

Better Bottle that wasnt cleaned for months

I'm guilty of one of the seven deadly brewing sins. I did not clean my better bottle after bottling my brew. It was a late night bottling session and I ended up putting it in my storage room before cleaning. I was looking for Christmas stuff and come across it and it looks rough. The bottom and...

    Water Profile in Hattiesburg?

Anyone know what kind of water profile Hattiesburg has? I've been doing extract and using distilled but I'm switching to all grain after Christmas and plan on using community water.

    Can this pot be saved?

I rescued this from sitting outside at my dad's for the last two years. It was partially covered but still has significant rust an chips after me sanding and trying to clean it without using chemical cleaners yet. First time posting pics so hope I do it right...

Can I use this old kettle?

I was at my father's today and while helping him around the shop we came across his old crawfish pot. Looks to be a 15 to 20 gallon aluminum stock pot. He has replaced it a year or so ago and it has some age to it. Its not rusted up bad but there are spots here and there that are best described...

How long do people let there beer sit before bottling?

I didn't want to say how long do people let there been ferment before bottling, because fermentation can be over in a few days. Also I'm talking about standard 4.5%-6% gravity beers. I know some people use the 1-2-3 rule for 1 week in primary, 2 weeks in secondary, and 3 in the bottle before...

    4 month old smack pack

So I'm using a kit from Northern Brewer I got for Christmas. I've been pretty busy and haven't had time to brew. The kit is Caribou Slobber with 1332 Northwest Ale from Wyeast. I smacked the pack about 3 hours ago and I have about an hour left of brewing. The pack didn't inflate very much, but I...

    How to determine carbonation levels

I am wondering how to tell if my beer is carbonated enough. I understand a beer can be flat when well under carbonated, but are there levels between flat and bottle bombs. I used cane sugar in priming for the first time and I read that it can take longer to carb. I am hoping to have my beer...

    Hello from Mississippi

Hey everyone, I've been lurking on this forum for a while now. I have 4 brews under my belt so far (all extract). Looking to break into all grain soon. I love the DIY nature of homebrewing and the flexibility of upgrading as you go. :mug: Cheers
