UniBrau 20 Gallon system - Brew Day and Questions

My first brew on my 20G Unibrau was a 5 gallon pale ale. I was trying to get my feet wet without running the risk of effin' up 10 gallons of beer. I Pretty much winged my way through it. I "graduated" from a 3 vessel system with plastic coolers and a keggle so this one vessel setup it still...

Aging Cider in a Rum Barrel

I recently aged a strong ale in a freshly emptied 5 gallon rum barrel I bought from a local distillery. Came out great! After the beer came out, I put some cheap rum back in the barrel to keep it from drying out, so that's how it's sitting now waiting on an new product to age. I am thinking...

    Unibräu or Clawhammer?

I am getting an all-in-one system. I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Unibräu and the Clawhammer. I have had some contact with the guys from Clawhammer and I’m very impressed with what they have going on and their communication. The unibräu seems nicer overall though. The grain basket alone...

Are AIO units like Spike Solo/Unibrau worth the extra money?

Are all-in-one systems like the Unibrau and Spike Solo worth the extra money over the Anvil Foundry? thanks!

    Keg lid feet??

I lost one of the ‘feet’ of one of my keg lids. Had to make die with a little plastic lid of sorts that I found but now I was looking at getting a bag of them to have on hand. I found out that they are hard to find and go for crazy prices. More beer has them for $1.29/ea but with shipping I...

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

I have had a 3 vessel system going for a few years. It all works good and I get nice efficiencies out of it and great beers. I was reading about all-in-one systems (anvil etc) and the convenience seems attractive to me. has anyone ever up (or down?) graded from a 3 vessel system to an...

I got me a 5 gal Rum barrel!

I picked up a recently emptied rum barrel from the local distillery (Bartlett’s in Conroe TX, worth checking out if you’re ever in the neighborhood) now I’m pondering what to age in it. I’m leaning towards some sort of pina colada strong ale/barleywine. I’d ferment out something strong (around...

How do y'all make low(er) alcohol mead?

I've made a few 5 gallon batches of mead and let those dry out completely to around 14% ABV before bottling. These meads are are just sitting in my wine cabinet, aging and I open a bottle occasionally. I just bought a 3 gallon fermenter and carboy and I want to get more serious in trying to...

    No Suckback Blowoff System Dilemma

I put together this blow off system that should prevent suck back and oxygen from entering the fermenter during cold crash. I can do two things: add sanitizer to the first jar, keep the 'in' hose connected to the short tube and the 'out' hose connected to the long tube. This way the CO2...

    Cold Conditioning Dry Mead

After indulging in some mead for the first time at the Texas Renaissance Festival, and seeing all the wild honey vendors along the FM roads in Montgomery County, Texas, I decided that i should probably make some mead. Planning on a dry show mead, 5 gallon batch, 12lbs of honey, and EC-1118...

How does my gingerbread milk stout recipe look?

I’ve ever only brewed IPA’s (I have home recipes for NEIPA, west coast style DIPA, and a simple APA/IPA) and lagers but want to try a “Christmas beer”. AGingerbread milk stout. I don’t even really like stouts at all but just want to venture there! I want a 2.5 gallon batch (I always make 5...

    Milky Pilsner

Racked my first all grain to secondary. This is supposed to be a pilsner. OG 1.048 FG 1.010 ABV 4.99%. Saaz hops which I added late and some even whirlpool (mistake!). All in all it is really mild and I think people will enjoy it on a hot day after it lagers for 4-6 weeks to smooth out some...
