    Ey up chucks

Hi peeps, how's things? Been a long time since I last visited...manic DIY in preparation for selling my flat has taken over my life. :( On the beer front, gonna brew a hefeweizen in a few weeks (once I finish the tiling in the bathroom), bought a 8 1/2" Phil's sparge arm, think the wife has...

    Hello all!

I've been absent for a while. Busy working in Toulouse, France. How is everyone? I see there are many new names (and a lot of "risky" avatars...not that I'm complaining ;) Anyone else disappeared of the face of the HB world? I notice El P doesn't visit much anymore?

More brewing, more drinking, less chanking!

Hey Brew Buds, I've been away in Toulouse for 10 days, and there are 497 new posts! Man, you guys need to do more brewing, more drinking, and less chanking! It's gonna take me an age to get through this lot.....where's my pint? :mug:

    First AG - the verdict

Just had a wee sneaky taster of my first AG - fantastic (IIDSSM)! ;) No hint of that "medicinal taste" that I have been whining about on my previous brews - thanks (I think) to filtering the water and adding 1/2 crushed campden tablet to the liquor to remove chlorine. Plus I treated the water...

    Pi$$ed movie critic

I've just watched, or rather endured, Guy Ritchie's latest two hours of cinematographic torture called "Revolver". It is, I can safely say, the most pretentious pile of crap that I have ever sat through in my entire life. I like art, don't get me wrong, but I draw the line at this type of "art"...

    Sad day for Hampshire UK

Today, Fuller's announced they were closing the Horndean Brewery, home of Gales, and would continue to brew famous Hampshire brews such as HSB in Chiswick, London. I shall be boycotting all Fuller's Ales (London Pride) from now on! This is a sad day for Hampshire.....

    Cool Box Mash Tun

Next stage on the path to AG, my cool box mash tun... It's a work in progress, but basically is a 32L thermos cool box, with a drum tap fitted to the inner wall of the cool box, a copper slotted manifold (this is the next job to complete), which is connected to the back of the drum tap using a...

Spraymalt (DME) is the best for priming!

I've just primed with Light plain Spraymalt for the first time, and boy does it produce excellent carbonation and a good head on the beer! In the past I have used Young's Brewing Sugar, and quite frankly the results were poor.

    How do you sparge

I am setting up to go AG, and wondered how to go about sparging. I have a Brupak's Mash Tun / Boiler (with a mashing / sparging bag), and I am trying to decide whether to mash and sparge in this piece of equipment, or build a separate mash tun, using the Brupak's as a boiler / HLT. If I mash and...

    Counterflow Wort Chiller

Just finished making my counterflow wort chiller, as per the project featured in the Jan / Feb 06 issue of BYO. Found it pretty easy to make, and total cost was around £28. Haven't tested it yet, but no leaks on the water side. Used compression fittings throughout, and 8mm microbore copper tube...

    Full volume extract boil

Now that I have a 29L boil kettle, I was thinking that I could boil an extract brew with the full volume of water added, rather than boiling the partial volume and adding cold water at the end to bring the volume up. Is there anything wrong with this suggestion? I assume that I would need to...
