Gravity has not moved but there's blowoff activity

Brewed a Cream Ale, using US-05 Pitched yeast two weeks ago OG was 1.048 FG at 1.011 (predicted to be 1.009) Tilt has not changed in 3 days but every time that I open the fermentation chamber, the blowoff tube has activity. Should I wait a few more days or proceed?

What is this? Looks like an oil slick with lines

While I was transferring my Märzen from the Grainfather to a SS Brewbucket. I see an assortment of colors and what appears to be lines throughout. I mixed the batch after taking the picture and all seems fine. The fermentation chamber is now at 52f and it now looks completely normal. Any ideas?

    Regulator for CO2 malfunction

I have a Northern Brewer CO2PO, dual regulator. Today, I started a new keg and had it connected to the left regulator. The gas was off but the needle was moving. I disconnected the line from the left regulator and changed it to the right side, which works perfectly. Even though the left hand...

    Diacetyl in commercial beer

I've never really noticed diacetyl in any of my beers but I bought a 6 pack of commercial beer and the first four were great but the last one I opened had a distinct butterscotch flavor. I'm guessing that it's diacetyl. Is that possible on a commercial level?

    Is this grain milled?

I have a Cereal Killer for my BIAB setup but recently purchased a Grainfather and had the grain milled from AIH (basically to see how an all grain crush should look like). the grains arrived today but they don’t look that crushed to me. Maybe because I’m used to the fine crush from my BIAB...

Five pound CO2 tank - Is it full?

I just had my 5 lb. CO2 tank filled at my LHBS and (to me), something doesn't seem right. The tare weight is 7.62 lbs., after taking it home, I weighed it and it's 10.33 lbs. Did I get shorted over 2 lbs. of CO2? I'm estimating ~54% full/~46% empty, is my line of thinking correct?

Please recommend a digital scale for measuring salts

I have a digital scale, although it measures in grams, it only measures in whole grams. Can anyone recommend a reliable one which measures in decimals? i.e. 3.18g ? I imagine the accuracy should be 0.01g? Cheers!

Brewing salts (and a pH question)

I'm new at water chemistry and have some questions. I'm doing BIAB, not sure if this changes the answers. When do you add brewing salts? To the strike water before turning on the heat? I've read that someone adds salt the night before brewing. Is there a tried and true way to mix/dissolve the...

    Canned Wort question (Fast Pitch/Propper)

Quick question.... I need to make a 2L starter and only have one can of Fast Pitch. My LHBS sells Propper. Would there be any harm in me mixing one can of each to make the 2L starter? Cheers!

Wyeast smack pack and stir plate

If I smack the Wyeast pack to release the nutrients, do I need to wait the three hours for the packet to expand if I'm using a stir plate or can I empty the contents right into the flask and start the stir plate?

    Gusher? Bottle Bomb?

I've been kegging for the last few batches but decided to bottle a Dubbel. Using 2 oz. corn sugar for a 2.5 gallon batch at 70f carbonation. At week 2, I decided to chill and then open a bottle. Carbonation was definitely there but I wanted to try a bottle a week, until 5 weeks. Today (week...

    BIAB first attempt. Infected?

I attempted to brew an Irish Red, using US-05 at 66f for 7 days, then ramped up to 75f (ambient) for 4 days. OG was 1.046 and have a couple steady readings of 1.011. When I removed the lid from the big mouth bubbler, it was loose. Here is a pic of the wort (the center spot was where I used a...
