    First attempt at fermenting vegetables

As the title states, my first attempt at fermenting vegetables. Peppers, cauliflower, carrots & garlic on the left. Pepper, green beans, asparagus and garlic on the right. Kosher salt in the jars with a bay leaf too. Everything is submerged so fingers crossed. I’m excited to see how they turn out.

Let’s start a new thread for the new year. Last year we tallied 383.01 pounds. Let’s see how we compare… Today I roasted two African varieties, one from Ethiopia and the other from Kenya, each 0.75 pounds. 0.75 x 2 = 1.5 pounds to start the new year.

Other Half's All Together Beer - Recipe Attached

Like what Sierra Nevada did with the Camp Fires the other year, Other Half is doing a similar thing with the current Covid-19 outbreak. They are calling it All Together Beer. They have the recipe, graphics and other material for this beer. I figured I would share this if home brewers were...

Looking to get a used smoker & need advise please.

I am very interesting in getting a smoker. I figured I would go used since my wife only eats chicken, turkey and fish (no read meats or pork), my oldest daughter is very similar to her but is trying to go vegetarian and my youngest is becoming picky but will try most things (after much...

New York Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster - Canandaigua, NY $110

I’m selling my Fresh Roast SR500 fluid bed air coffee roaster. I purchased it new in December 2017 and used it till December 2018. Since then I have upgraded to a larger roaster and this one has been sitting on the shelf. Instead of collecting dust I figured I should try to sell it so someone...

    Mystery Coffee Bean Swap

I thought it might be fun to trade some home roasted coffee beans among the group, but with a twist. Here is how it will work: 1. Let me know that you want to take part in the trade. The deadline to join is February 28. 2. On March 1, I will randomly choose who you will send coffee to. 3...

    Plaato Airlock Discussion

I figured I would start a thread on the Plaato Airlock. I was one of the very early backers of this project. I was curious to get my hands on something that I could tinker with and incorporate into my brewing hobby. I figured this thread would serve a good place for users of the Plaato...

Hops Combo with Sorachi Ace for a Partygyle Beer

I pulled a second runnings from my American Barleywine yesterday for a partygyle beer. I want to add some home grown Cascade and Chinook hops at the end of the boil. Say 15mins at the most. I don’t think I’ll add any hops before the 15 min mark. I was thinking of adding some Sorachi Ace hops too...

Home Brewer's First Attempt at a Session Mead/Melomel - Questions

I have kicked around the idea of making a mead or melomel for some time now and after listening to a podcast by Experimental Brewing, it put me over the edge. Recently Denny and Drew did an interview with Kiley Gwynn about session meads. Well I picked up some local honey, the Lalvin 71B yeast...

Which beer style for an "Iron Brew"?

The small home brew club that I am part of is doing our second "Iron Brew" competition. This batch I need to use donuts and concord grape jelly in my beer. I figured I would use the donuts in the mash and rack the beer into a secondary with the jelly. The jelly is from Trader Joe's with...

What roast level would you call this?

I know pictures are hard to tell most of the time but I figured I would put this out there. I was recently given some pre-roasted coffee so I figured I would try it. I was told it was a “medium” roast. Well to me this seems more like a dark roast. Even the beans have a lot of oil on them, the...

Cleaning a Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster

Well I am two months into roasting my own coffee beans and have been enjoying it! I started off roasting a half pound every week to a full pound every other week (+/-). With that being said, my roaster is showing some signs that a cleaning may be needed. There is oil build up and what not...
