    SS hop filter!!

I know they're old, but these posts caught my eye regardless. If you are interested in why it's perfectly fine to use bags with elements, read this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/contact-element-224084/ Cheers! :mug:

Dry fired. Is my element dead?

What's the wattage of the element? I dry-fired a 5500W 240VAC element. After doing the math, I should measure 10.5 ohms. Sure enough, the element I didn't dry-fire measures 10.5 ohms. The one I did dry-fire measures about 10.8 ohms. After doing the math, I will have a reduced wattage of 5333W...

I have almost all of them. With his permission, I could upload them.

12x12x6 BCS-460 Control panel is a tight fit

Your brewery is amazing. Excellent work, man. I plan on installing the same float switch for the same reason. :mug:

Could dry-firing an element increase the resistance in the circuit?

How did you mount your control panel?

My control panel is mounted on a very beefy modified monitor stand, attached to the brewstand. If I could mount it again knowing what I know now, I would mount it to the wall.

What an awesome rig! Excellent work!

    Limitations of the "Kal" setup?

Yes, unfortunately for many people on HBT, this does require a little bit of thinking. All kidding aside, I set the HLT a few degrees higher than the desired mash temperature, and I continuously recirculate the HLT to ensure a consistent temperature throughout the HLT. Insulating the MLT is...

    Breakers in control box

The resistance in the circuit can increased through a poor/loose connection. There are many ways that this could be done. I noticed that the most likely culprit is the connection to a relay or terminal block. The screw that holds the terminal down can be loose to such a point that the ring/spade...

Do the 50A circuit. You won't regret it.

I've found the one major downside to electric brewing

Glad to hear that it still worked out ok! Maybe the name the beer after the event? What kind of beer was it? My rig is hybrid (electric/propane), and I always have propane regardless of my utilities.

    Breakers in control box

Same reason I asked, but there's always the possibility of something (like a bad connection of some sort... maybe from a poorly crimped 10 gauge wire terminal) that could cause a current draw of more than 30A but less than 50A. Am I wrong about this? If not, a lot of smoke is possible... Your...

    Breakers in control box

Thank you P-J and Kal for all of your valuable input. I've been trying to figure out a couple things mentioned in this thread and illustrated in a couple diagrams I've seen around HBT: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/just-another-electric-brewery-build-thread-317746/#post4038376...

General Wiring Questions On A 240v 50amp Line

Where did you get this chart? I thought the 80% rule is for sizing circuit breakers and is independent of the cable to be used. I've also been led to believe it's fine to run 55A through a cable that's rated for 55A. Please let me know if that's wrong.
