    Revisiting My Classics

Major thread resurrection here! I still have a single remaining bottle of most of the ones I reviewed for this post, as well as a couple others. Basically a full case of 24 bottles, one from each batch. These beers are now anywhere from 15-17 years old, and I'm kinda curious to finally finish...

    Revisiting My Classics

Yeah, one thing I really keep meaning to do is brew another Belgian ale, put it in bottles, and forget about it for a while. Those definitely age the best.

    Revisiting My Classics

Wow, it's already been four years? My first son was born the day after my last post on this, so I haven't brewed as much as I used to. I also almost exclusively keg now, so I don't have a big stockpile of bottles anymore. I still have the last bottle of most of my first thirty or so...

White Labs WLP013 London Ale really stinks

I went ahead and used it. Kegged yesterday and the beer seemed fine. :D

    5 gallons down the drain

Ugh no one likes to hear a tale of woe like that. It's worse that it was sooo close to being drinkable too. I've had a 100% failure mishap at the very beginning, when I was boiling wort, but not in any of the later stages. My condolences.

White Labs WLP013 London Ale really stinks

I made a couple starters tonight, one with WLP013 London Ale. It was a bit chunky and cottage cheesy looking, and it smelled a bit sour. I haven't brewed in a long time, but I used to use WLP013 all the time, and I don't recall it ever looking or smelling like this. I'm back a newbie state of...

    Who's brewing on Black Friday?

Glad to see so many others going for it on Friday. I also have no interest in descending into the madness of the crowds. We have throttled back on our initial enthusiasm a bit and are only doing a double brew day. We're holding off on the IIPA until I get a little practice in and knock off...

    Who's brewing on Black Friday?

After a massive hiatus, I'm dusting off my equipment and getting ready to go out all on a ridiculous TRIPLE brewing day this Friday. I'll be doing a porter, an imperial IPA, and a Christmas wheat beer. The first two will be kegged for the upcoming holidays, and the third will be bottled for...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Big Brother Peanut Butter Brown

I bought some powder peanut butter and plan to try brewing this again with it, hopefully early 2014.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Big Brother Peanut Butter Brown

Three weeks will probably be long enough to get it mostly de-oiled. Something else to try is to skim the oil off during the boil, because it wants to float on the water. Just ease the heat back a moment to limit the rolling boil, and definitely try to remove it before you add the hops. Even...

Ball lock hose connector missing a piece?

This entire thing is a humiliating fiasco. I hesitate to even fully explain what happened, but, it's kinda funny, and maybe someone else will learn from my mistakes. When I initially took apart the connector piece, a little part of the black twist-on cap broke. That's what I heard clatter...

    Apple Jackhammer Recipe

Wow, hadn't looked at this thread in ages. The beer was actually pretty good. It ended up having a "flaw", diacetyl, which gave it a butterscotch flavor. The funny thing is, that flavor actually worked with the overall apple flavor. :D I'd say the one gallon of juice to four gallons of...

Ball lock hose connector missing a piece?

Yeah, that's what I thought at first, but when I turned it around, it didn't seem to want to engage at all, like the other end was too short to reach the post. I might try that again just to be sure though.

Ball lock hose connector missing a piece?

I just kegged two brews! Before I did, I took a part the beer side ball lock connectors to clean them, and I think I heard a piece fall out when I disassembled one. I couldn't find anything, so I thought maybe it was nothing, but lo and behold, when I put it back together and tried to connect...

    Crookedballlock

I think I lost a piece on this, and it's not assembling correctly now.

    Internalballlockparts

These are the two internal pieces. I think there may have been a third that goes between them.

Weak orange flame on my burner

I have been using this same burner for about four years now, on and off, mostly off lately. I was going to just buy a new piece, but I'll give your re-pressurization suggestion a try first. EDIT: Just went out and tried it, and it totally fixed it! Thanks!

I need a different kind of Christmas Beer

How about a wheat beer with a Belgian yeast? Slightly exotic, but should be easy drinking.

Weak orange flame on my burner

Yes, after the old tank ran out of fuel, which I suspected was the problem, I got a replacement and it made no real difference. It seemed like the tube might still be obstructed though, since the airflow seemed weak no matter how we adjusted the air intake mix. I think I'll try putting a wire...

Weak orange flame on my burner

Oh yeah, we did spin that every which way and try to get as much air in there as possible. It didn't seem to make any difference. I really do want to get this fixed or get a new line/regulator, if that's what it takes. The brew pot was a disgusting carbon-coated mess and no fun to deal with...
