    Fermenting Malta

Just found this thread, and I know it's old ..... but I'm gonna ask my question anyways, hoping I might get an answer. I once read in BYO a few years back, about using Goya Malta for a starter. That mag is packed away and will probably won't see the light of day anytime in the near future. I was...

Black Mocha Stout by Highland Brewing

@redarmy999 Thanks for the info. Yeah, I noticed there's no coffee in it, which I expected there to be at least a bit ;>). I was in Asheville a few weeks ago, and had hoped to take the tour and maybe get a litle bit of inside info, but their tours were shut down due to Fauchi's Farce - instead...

Black Mocha Stout by Highland Brewing

Hi, Coastalbrewer; Thanks for the recipes! Much appreciated. I just recently bought a Brewzilla so I will adjust the recipes to that. I have a Black Ale and a RIS in the schedule ahead of them, as well as a remodel of the home we are moving into, so it will be a bit down the road to brew them...

Black Mocha Stout by Highland Brewing

Well. I went to BYO, but since I'm no longer a member (it was a choice between re-upping to BYO or signing on to AHA for 3 years. maybe next round I'll go back to BYO). They had the recipe.for Gaelic Ale, but it was only for members. I'd like those recipes, thanks. BTW, I may not be getting back...

Black Mocha Stout by Highland Brewing

Thanks Coastalbrew. I went thru Ashville the other day and intended to go to the Brewery for a tour. It's closed becuz of C-19, but the taproom is open. Weird ...... they have to close the tours, (where you could keep your distance), but can keep the taproom open (where everyone might be crammed...

    Dig Hops while growin' ??

Thanks for your advice! The vines are all about 12 feet in the air now, they've outgrown the strings ..... we're moving the 22nd, so I'll cut the vines off at about 3 or 4 inches, dig them up and keep them moist - I've got plenty of buckets w/lids, so that will work out great. Thanx a bunch!! MT2sum

    Dig Hops while growin' ??

Hi; I may have sold my place here in Montana, and will hopefully be moving to Tennessee within the next two months. My hops are from a bunch of plants that came to Montana in the late 1800's/early 1900's. No idea what kind of hops they are, or what country they came from, but I'd really like to...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I do a 2 week primary, and 30 day bottle age. Mine never lasts long enuff to find out what "really good" aging is! I've even drank a couple of bottles after a week or so in ageing, just becuz I was thirsty. My Stout is always good regardless of age, just like Porter is. Yooper's OatStout is...

    DIY electric homebrew equipment $350.00

Selling our mobile home here in MT and moving to a small 16x16 cabin down South. No room for brewing equipment where we’re going. We had to pack it up before we could finish testing the controls. At our age, I’ll be going back to 1 gal. Brews! DIY 3-pot electric brewing system. includes 10 gal...

    Ultimate Beer by Michael Jackson

Since others seem to think it is their duty to comment negatively on the price of my item, I would take down this thread if I knew how to. BTW, I rarely use Amazon or Ebay, so your comments are useless to me - I put the price that I wanted for the item, NOT what a seller on another site might...

    Ultimate Beer by Michael Jackson

Thanks for your post Kevin58; Yeah, I've seen other offers to sell, some from $12.99 to $69.99. I figured on half way! If no one was interested, so be it. I figured if someone was interested and didn't like my price, they'd at least make an offer. Thanks for steering any potential buyers to...

    Ultimate Beer by Michael Jackson

This is a 'used' 192 page book, dust jacket/protective cover is intact with minor 'wrinkledge' and a small tear on the lower front. All of the book corners are undamaged. Book, without the cover on it, looks like new. No damaged or wrinkled pages, no writing or defacement on pages - looks like...

Is it me or my keg?

I'll look up Hothead yeast, THX. These kits were cheapie 5.+%, so I figgered that the seller was intelligent enuff to know the timing for aging. Maybe, as someone said along the way, the yeast I used had died off, I use mostly Munton's Ale yeast which has always been good to me .... (I may be a...

Is it me or my keg?

Thanks all, it will take me some time to digest all of these comments ..... I should have noted that these are pin-lock kegs, not ball-lock (I can only purge by using the gas-in). As far as bad gauges, I had bad gauges and bought new ones - I hope these aren't bad as well. I used lube on the...

Is it me or my keg?

For the past 3 brews, I've ended up with flat beer! (and yes. I do drink my mistakes!). The first two kegs I tried force carbonating - followed instructions to the tee (the only difference is that I can't cold crash ahead of putting the primer in, it has to carb at room temps) - first from my...

Brewing in an Electric Turkey Fryer

I had almost finished putting together my 5 gal, 3 vessel electric system in MT - (10 gal hlt, 5 gal boil pot, 5 gal mash pot w/pumps), and then came down to TN for a 2 week visit, and 1 1/2 years later we're still here (the wife can't stand the idea of leaving the grandkids ) :>( . We're living...

Dry yeast or not Dry yeast that is the question!

I have always used dry yeasts, I only do Ales - Stouts, Porters, IPA's, Wheats and Pales - the only two times I ever used liquid yeast was a couple of tubes from the LHBS when I was living down in Tennessee, and by the time I got them home, (an hour drive), they were both dead .... I had to use...
