    Uncomplicated Mead

    Just "raw".

    Uncomplicated Mead

Honey was from the farmer's market. If I remember it was drinkable at bottling. If I were trying to impress someone, or convince my spouse that this was an endeavour worth repeating... I'd use more honey.

    Any suggestions for Chocolate Mead

Thanks for the links guys, I will consider using nibs in the future. This time around I used the unsweetened bakers chocolate, because we had it in the house and it wasn't going to be used for anything else.

    Any suggestions for Chocolate Mead

I'm contemplating crafting a mead using unsweetened bakers chocalate. At the moment I'm looking at 3 gallons of water, 9 lbs of honey, and K1-V1116 yeast. I plan to melt it into warm water and then add the honey and so on. Does anyone have any suggestions on how much Chocolate to use?

    Questions on my first batch

Maybe for a batch that small, a careful pour would be a better way to transfer into a secondary. My true curiosity is what would you use for a secondary? To respond to your question, my (limited) understanding is that unlike beer, mead can ferment on its lees without causing problems with the...

Are you planning on racking to a secondary?

    Holiday 2012 Light Cranberry Mead

Gamrchick: thanks for the tip! The pictures look really great. How long do you keep it in the secondary with the cranberries? usfmikeb: I have a small batch of mead that had similar proportions of wine and honey, although I used D47 and no cranberries were harmed. We'll be opening a bottle this...

    Holiday 2012 Light Cranberry Mead

Hi usfmikeb Unfortunately, my hydrometer reading was more precise than my memory. And in general, instruments of precision have some sort of aversion or intolerance for me. The proportion of honey to water is low, because I anticipate sharing it with others over a large Thanksgiving meal. I...

    Uncomplicated Mead

I am sharing my first experiment with Mead, which was a simple and successful recipe of my own design. (Although it is so simple "design" seems to be too generous of a word). Experienced mazers will be able to tell that this was the experiment of someone transitioning from beer brewing. In...

    Holiday 2012 Light Cranberry Mead

Last night I racked to a 3 gal secondary (pictured below). The aroma and taste were very pleasant, the cranberry presence was more pronounced than I had anticipated, so I am glad I limited the supply of fresh cranberries.

    Holiday 2012 Light Cranberry Mead

Wow 3# for 1gal. The handful of posts I found seemed to suggest 1# to 1gal made for a puckery mead. I figure I'll go light this year and refine the recipe each holiday season.

    Holiday 2012 Light Cranberry Mead

Hello, I thought I'd throw together a Light Cranberry Mead which is intended for next year. I am somewhat new to mead, but have a couple batches that are almost ready to bottle. In other words this post is probably an exercise in cataloging my mistakes. Ingredients (pictured below): 1...
