Overview

Prohobition is a law that prohibits the sale and/or production of alcohol. Some states have banned alcohol based on religious grounds- strict Islamic law prohbits the consumption of alcohol. Other justifications for such laws have been social- prohibition has been brought in due to issues with alcoholism and general social issues caused by the over consumption of alcohol. Others cite the detrimental effects that alcohol can have on a person's health as a reason to bring in prohibition laws.

Prohibition in the United States

Prohibition was in effect in the United States between 1920 and 1933. It was brought in with the passing of the nineteenth amendment, and was subsequently abolished by the twenty first amendment (which is now the name of a brewery).
