The term Traditional Mead refers to a mead where the majority of the flavor comes from honey, as opposed to meads made with fruit, spices, or other strong non-honey flavors.

Traditional Mead in BJCP competitions may include ingredients such as raisins, tea, or other elements that contribute some flavor. This is as opposed to Show mead, which may contain no flavor additives.
