    Blowtie 1 or 2?

My own reasoning in choosing the bowtie 1 was that I could more easily swap out the gauge or reconfigure the bits... I never felt a need to though and it's been working fine for what I use it for, but I have considered swapping the gauge out for the digital one. Jus wondering if you've...

Long time no see (Return to homebrewing)

Just sayin' I brew in the kitchen too; I slide the stove out so I can borrow the plug and roll my brew rig in, but I have tile floors... My greater concern for property damage has been my windows, walls and ceiling owing to the steam. Yes, I now use a steam-condensor (...

I'm making a dandelion wine. No fermentation

Not meaning to sound too obvious, but did you let it cool down before pitching the yeast?

    5/16 Barb Size Differences

Sounds like a 3/8" barb which is no big deal... are you absolutely certain it's 5/16"? Taprites sell with either 3/8" or 5/16", but shoving a 5/16" hose over a 3/8" barb is fine and personally, I've always tried to use slightly oversized barbs as an added measure of security. In the meantime...

304 SS grain basket for 8 gallon Megapot?

What aspect of the bag do you hate? I had similar feelings myself when I first tried BIAB and experimented with mockups to see what difference a rigid mash-holder would make and concluded that it was a PITA to clean compared to a bag. Both will drip all over the place if you're not prepared to...

    RIMS element for 240v controller

Apologies; I know nothing about Brew Commanders, but I get kinda bothered every time I see a horizontal RIMS. I honestly don't know how significant a difference it makes in practice, but given 'heat rises', temp changes will be slower at the probe and what's coming out may not actually be at...

    Danby Kegerator Door Insulation Replacement

A 1/4 is the same height as a 1/6 ..It's just about 11" wide instead of 9.25" so you can still install the coupler and try it out for height...you just won't be able to close the door. :mug:

    new name beer

Yup! And then got sarcastic and/or humorous in making up a name. Go to this thread; https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/best-names-for-your-beer-batch.732488/ and tell us what it was supposed to be and what you called it. :mug:

What I did for beer today

I've seen inspiring pics of your beautiful brew rig some time ago and if I recall correctly, you had one of those large TC sock filters inline on the path to the fermenter.... I'm wondering 2 things; Do you still use it? ..if not, why? and: What is this: I'm a strong proponent of large kettle...

    Danby Kegerator Door Insulation Replacement

I looked that model up ( https://www.danby.com/products/compact-refrigerators/dar440bl/ ) and I think your greater concern will be the height once the coupler is attached. A 1/6 keg is 9.25" wide and about 23" high... The temp control and fan unit appear to be mounted right in the middle of the...

Kegging into a commercial keg from plastic fermenter

There's several areas to address. Since you're only 2 messages in since signing up, here's some friendly advice: There's no such thing as too much information when posting a question, and like @mac_1103 said; A picture is worth a thousand words (or about 40 posts over 3 days as we try to pry...

What changes made your beer better?

Having started on the stovetop with a couple of Cooper's kits and glass carboys, my three Big Ones were; - Moving to all grain - Building an electric rig with all the fittings and pump and CFC - Closed fermenters and transfers ..and like @CascadesBrewer said; "a bunch of small factors" which...

Looks like what I'd call a "Health & Safety" assistant. I have a 'Sanitation &Safety' assistant myself, which reminds me I owe @balrog an explanation for the whiffle ball; It's not just the whiffle ball, but also the mouse, the bag, and the box that are tools for my Sanitation & Safety...

    Preferred kegerator cleaning method

If you mean the interior walls and floor; what is it made of..SS or plastic? Mine's plastic and I often have drips or rings and I just wipe them with a warm damp cloth and try and keep it clean with each keg change.... When I occasionally have a couple empty spaces, which happens once or twice...

    Height of whirlpool/circulation inlet

It depends on your usual smallest batch size; Put it a couple inches below the wort level. If you haven't yet picked out a port to install, here's the best you can get (in my opinion); https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/spincyclesubmerge.htm :mug:

Gainfully employed since age 7, paying income tax since age 10, catastophically injured on the job and forcibly 'retired' at age 46.... The word 'sedentary' never belonged in a sentance with my name, but everything I lived for is now painful or out of reach. Now that I'm done being depressing...

    Newb scorches LME

I began with stove-top brews, so here's a messy one: I'm disabled so rather than move the huge pot off the burner to mix, I took my large SS dutch-oven (which I had thoroughly scrubbed with barkeepers friend inside and out) and wearing thick cotton gloves inside my rubbermaid gloves; dipped it...
