I recirculate to prevent scorching. I do believe cavitation would make sense as how the problem starts, but when it reaches a certain point it wont attempt to run, unless I give it time to cool down (or the wort that is in the line- both I guess). Pump seems to run fine when its at ambient...
I use 2 Blichmann pumps with my HERMS setup. During the boil, i use one to re-circulate the wort. The last few brews the pump has begun to fail about 30 minutes in to the boil. The pump will make some very loud noises, and then stop spinning altogether. This last time I turned the pump off...
Thanks for the feedback. I think I have 12 more ounces to use up. I will definitely cut the carapils in half, and see if I change my late additions if the batches will be less sweet.
Just sampling a brew I came up with...
13lb 2 row
2 lb maris otter
1 lb Carapils
1 oz 60 min El D
1 oz 30 min El D
2 oz whirlpool El D
2 oz dry hop
6 gallons there about-
1.069 OG
Currently 1.032 on the refracto (so 1.01 or 1.004 range)
Safale 05 yeast
My El D's were something like 16 alpha...
I was at a brewery the other day and they had a banana flavored imperial stout. It was pretty good... didn't love it but was definitely something different. It did get my wheels turning. I have a couple jars of 3864 and I am thinking how this might work. Anyone make an imperial stout with...
So I called brewershardware to get their opinion on using one of these as a hop filter. Great conversation and I was convinced it was worth a shot. First batch I tested on was a west coast IIPA with 6 ounces of dry hops. Figured, if it works with this one it'll work with any brew! I should also...
Same here... I love this beer. This will be my first 10 gallon batch so I bumped up the two base malts by 1 pound, thinking I will lose some efficiency.
I am making a DIY chiller with a window unit and cooler. I was looking at the AC coil and thinking about the fins. Seems like they may not be necessary due to the heat exchange is occurring in a liquid state (glycol/water mix) and not with air. So the increased surface area that the fins take...
Yep, Ive decided I am doing this one now and see if I can hold one to a keg till September. Question for all, I see folks doing 10 gallon batches, any adjustments or simply double everything?
Thanks for the photos! Interesting, this still suggests you do not take the coil out, because it is blocked by the QD fitting. I can see that you can loosen to clean around it though, or are you using a CIP and havent had a need to take the coil out?
