Opened a taster bottle of a quad we made a few months ago. It's good but I'm certain it needs to age more.
Also tried an English bitter that was just kegged. It is...a crusher.
Been drinking a gingerbread porter, served on nitro. Fairly easy drinking for a spiced beer. Clocks in at 5.5% abv.
Mostly though, been dipping into the single malt Scotch lately on these cold rainy nights we've been having here.
It's weird to me that this style hasn't been promoted in the US as a standard everyday drinking beer yet. Marketing teams can surely find a way to make it seem like an American style to the public, if that's even important. It's so easy to make and so very much more delicious than any Bud or...
I'm on one of those tears right now where I only drink my own brews. We have been killing it lately, with a half dozen beers in a row that we consider perfect (at least to us, as starting points for further iteration). This is our gingerbread porter, kegged in a 1.75 gallon vessel we brought to...
Got a fancy new sample valve for the unitank. Supposed to offer a more gradual and controllable flow. Might come in handy if we ever decide to use the tank as a serving vessel too.
Also expecting about 75 lbs of assorted malts sometime today to top off our inventory. And a couple lbs of this...
Last night I started setting up a 5 cu ft chest freezer to long term age our big beers. We've been making so much quick turn stuff lately, we want to get back to aged, high-ABV sippers. We'll probably make a quad and our imperial pumpkin pie ale to start. Definitely want to do a big imperial...
Set up the freezer to function as our "cellar" for aging our big beers in kegs. (Nevermind that our brewery is actually sitting in a sort of cellar.)
Also gave the electric system a good cleaning cycle with the pump and CIP ball. My wife surprised us with a bowl of tater tots and some spicy mayo.
Brewing Sunday. Making a Gingerbread Porter to be served on nitro as part of our Christmas beer lineup. My brew partner lives down the street and we've been squirreling away winter ales.
We've also got a Pumpkin Pie ale that's been aging since last year (also on nitro), our Belgian Quad...
Made this in September '21, kegged it and left it alone until early October of this year. We put it on nitro and it's been the best pumpkin beer we've ever tasted, as well as one of the best beers I've ever made. Going to make this every year going forward, and try each time to make it taste as...
Homebrew can be vastly better than store-bought. I went to a homebrew club meeting once where everyone was sharing their current brews and most of them were far and away better than anything I was buying. Best barrel-aged stout I've tasted so far was made by a member of that club...like it's not...
