I'm considering plating a couple of my mixed cultures, partly because I'm bored, partly because I want to see if I can isolate different stuff. I don't have a microscope, nor do I care to purchase one - neither do I like spending that kind of coin on this type of thing nor do I like staring through microscopes (too much of that in college labs). Would I be able to determine which are different colonies (supposing I do the plating right) without the use of a scope? I've seen pictures that make it look like this can be done, without necessarily knowing what you're looking at, but am unsure if those pics are magnified.
