I just wanted to post an update on the fastest batch of this I've made to date with 6 lbs DME for 9 gallons total - requires 2x 5 gallon kegs and heat stick.
1) Made yeast starter with 100g / 1L water. Allow to sour for 48 hrs.
2) Add 2 gallons of water to 5 gallon keg, heat to boil with heat...
Omega's site specifies a temperature range but not an SG range for the OYL-605. Anyone have experience with how this behaves in high gravity? Looking to sour, pasturize and then dilute for fermentation.
Anyone try Lime? Two Roads has a Perisian Lime Gose, which is obviously a little different, and it is amazing- just need to figure out how much like to add...
So last summer I never got to my best laid plans on remaking this, but I'm back in action now and I'm planning on several batches since the house fridge is about to be retired to kegerator duty, I don't have much of a pipeline established, and summer is coming!
Built my starter on Sunday, and...
Seems a lot of the common ones that you can find in the big box stores are all variations if in another with stickers and knobs in different locations.
Doesn't the footprint matter most? Are you fermenting in carboys? Buckets? Kegs? Pails? How many can you fit next to each other?
July '18 shipping timeline for the Z1 (retooled Zymatic) according to the FAQ- no notes on Z2-Z4 timeline, but the order page says July 18 as well...
Z2+ get 240V.
So (if those numbers are accurate) $2500-$1000 for a new 2.5 gallon, less $100 launch day offer, and $600 if I wanted to trade in my current Z... = $800 to get the new one. (Less if I can sell it for more than $600 on the open market with 2x step filter setups.)
I just had mine in for it's...
50% off $3k at launch would make it cheaper than the current Z, which is why I went a bit higher. Think they're axing the current Z with fixed 2.5 gallon capacity in favor of this? Maybe the lineup is replacing it with a 1-3 gallon, 3-6 gallon and 5-10 gallon. Either way I'd write off any hopes...
My guess is 1-5, 120V system. 5-10, 240V system. $4.5k and $6k (MSRP) respectively, so half that for the launch. Some sort of chilling loop built in, and all the software features Z users ever requested.
This is pure speculation.
My issue, more and more, are the $14-$18 4-packs of pounders. Half of them suck - either just lousy beers getting in on the hype, or others that have sat past their peak. It's a gamble to try new ones, and if they're bad I have 3 more ($12 worth) to finish.
