MASHOUT is the Mid-Atlantic States Homebrewers CampOUT, a 4-day outdoor celebration of the homebrewing hobby held each summer. MASHOUT began in 1988 with the combined efforts of Washington, DC's BURP (Brewers United for Real Potables) and Frederick...
In my experience irish moss is overrated. Having said that I still use im derived whirlflock in every batch 10-3 gallon i've brewed including extract...
I would assume that an extract beer would not get much benefit and any lack of clarity is coming from post ferment. I would add a cold crash...
I've never noticed much issues with shortened mashes. I probably should plan to do them as I get distracted all the time or wait for things to come up to temp and it turns out to be 45 min anyway.
I usually do short boils for "bonus" beers (second runnings and what not) without any noticeable...
I definitely understand the draw of bottling and it has many perks I sometimes miss. There is something about holding back a couple and letting them ride out time. Having said that, I am too lazy to go back. Too much time and extra stuff to worry about. I kept saving bottles after moving to...

I'm another Mr. Beer user. I bought to make with my brother. I did that for a while until I realized there was a local HBS that I could go to and make better beer cheaper.
Hi all. I'm a 20+ year homebrewer who is trying to get motivated to do more frequent brewing. Recently bought an Anvil Foundry 6.5 to advance that goal. My main system has been a 72qt coleman cooler batch sparge system that I usually do 10 gallons on. I always seem to talk myself out of only...
I’m pretty sure iodine use in brewing was borrowed from dairy industry so I can’t see why not. I’d also say bleach solutions are a good idea and that’s what I did before star San.
