    Blichmann patent on RIMS

Very fair point Quad. I had forgotten the original thread here started with a stainless braided latuer. False bottom was added further down the discussion.

    Blichmann patent on RIMS

No, Brutus 20 *is* a two vessel system by definition, and a false bottom in the mash tun is pretty standard equipment.

    Blichmann patent on RIMS

Hey HBT. I'd like to get a read and your opinions on a patent recently awarded to John Blichmann for a two vessel RIMS system: Link to patent number 8,993,273 on uspto.gov Now obviously this is related to his BrewEasy system. When BrewEasy was first announced, I had an exchange with John...

    Countertop Brutus 20

Hey HBT. Long time, no visit. I just happened to notice Blichmann got a patent on RIMS, specifically, a two-vessel RIMS system. Dunno where I'd find the time, but I'm sorely tempted to invalidate it. http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?patentnumber=8993273

    Countertop Brutus 20

Wow. So many awesome CB20 builds, so many clever innovations! You guys are awesome. I still brew fairly regularly on mine, but life is taking me in a new direction as I work towards opening a craft distillery this year. Keep on brewing!

    Countertop Brutus 20

32s are all over the place. Even Walmart sells 'em (Bayou Classic). Best deal out there IMO though is the new Tall Boy Kettles at Northern Brewer. Fantastic construction and they're nice and tall. 32 quart is only $90.

    Countertop Brutus 20

Just checking in... Cool to see this thread is still kicking and people are building CB20s. I still brew on mine and love it. If anyone wants to see a full CB20 brewday (edited down to 20 min, thankfully), I posted a vid a while back. CB20 Brewday

    Countertop Brutus 20

30 quart is just about perfect, and the geometry of turkey fryer pots is ideal for electric brewing - less heat loss.

2KW will get 5-6 gal to a good rolling boil, especially if the pot is insulated.

I need a single PID, single element diagram

Actually, you want the switch on the high voltage side because SSRs often fail closed. The PID is your low voltage side switch.

    The Untappd Kegerator

Still finishing up the code. It's a simple web page so any device with a web browser will do. I'm using an old 1st gen iPad that will hang on the wall above the kegerator.

    The Untappd Kegerator

The Untappd Kegerator project has been updated to support the new Untappd V4 API. V3 starts shutting down in a few days. The latest tweak I'm working on is to squeeze another web server page into the Arduino to present an iPad friendly display of the current beers on tap (along with pour...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Teaching an introductory brewing class Saturday at Denver's Hackerspace - denhac. I'll be doing extract and all grain versions of Obama's Honey Ale. Denverites try to swing by!

    Fruit Beer Razzy Wheat

Glad you liked it Callacave. I haven't done a fruit beer in years. Might be time to dust this one off...

What do you set your e-kettles on?

Realize "the heat" is only boiling wort. Even your laminate should be able to handle 212F. A better reason to insulate the bottom is to minimize heat loss.
