Cooler Mash Tun - Mega Size, what size manifold

Why not just use a stainless steel braid? I have one in my large cooler and regularly brew 10 gallon batches with 28 to 30 pounds of grain.

    Titania!

'Tis the summer season here in Minnesota, and as luck would have it summer falls on a weekend this year! Titania is the wife of Oberon, this is not a clone of Oberon, but rather a companion. This is my summer house wheat, brewed and consumed in 10 gal batches. (Only way to keep up with demand)...

Planning a basement brewery, what are your essential must haves?

I have the poor man's version of this! I use garden hose quick disconnects at the deep tub faucet, and use a 4' RV hose for a sprayer. The end of the hose is cut off, so I just squeeze to get the spray I need. I also have the same water filter with quick disconnects I use to fill my pot. Very...

How do I easily clean the shoulders of a PET carboy ?

Honestly, just fill the darn up with oxyclean and hot water, let sit overnight, and rinse. Couldn't be any easier! Betterbottles rock! Mine have NEVER even seen a brush!

What’s the best grain mill for the price?

OK, I'll play: Are you counting the cost of a drill to power your mill? If so, then you may want to consider this no name motorized mill from Amazon: ($157.99) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D1Y51WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I have had it for about a year and brew 10...

Best grain mill in your opinion?

Great Article, very well done!! My experience with the Vevor has been good. The base fits the top of my mash-tun (cooler), so I just fill the hopper, turn it on and walk away. Its heavy enough that it won't walk off the cooler. The rollers are adjustable and the set screws work well holding the...

Best grain mill in your opinion?

It takes me about 20 min to grind 20 to 25 pounds of grain. (I do 10 gal batches) Crush looks pretty good too!

Best grain mill in your opinion?

I have now put over 300lbs through this guy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D1Y51WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 SLOW at 40 rpm, but it does the job. Heavy enough that I can fill the hopper, turn it on and walk away while it grinds. It's cheap Chinese crap, but it does...

Would you brew in the bathroom?

I brew in my laundry room. Great deep tub, plenty of hot water from the tap, 220V dryer outlet for my kettle heating element. I can brew during the LONG Minnesota winter with no fear of dreaded CO!

How long does it take you ?

I haven't noticed any difference at all. I also run my hot tap water through a charcoal filter on the way into the pot. This way I'm starting with water at about 125 deg. and only have to heat up to my strike temp, about 169 deg. Saves a BUNCH of time!

And the consensus best, economical grain mill is...

I have used one of these for well over 10 years now: http://schmidling.com/maltmill.htm $110 of the best spend per buck ever! I now buy my base malt for $40 a sack from my local craft brewery. I figured the mill has paid for it's self many, many times over. let's see, 10 years is about...

How long does it take you ?

Couple of things to help speed your output: Step up to 10 gal or more batches I use hot tap water to fill my hot liquor tank, this speeds up the heating! Batch sparge into buckets. You can start heating for the boil while finishing the sparge. Use a plate chiller, mine is gravity fed...

Best All Around Base Grain (To Buy Bulk)

You may want to check with your local micro brewery or brewpub if bulk shipping is an issue. Here in Duluth, Lake Superior Brewing sells 50lb sacks of Cargill 2 row, a very good quality malt. They sometimes have Canadian Pale or 2 row as well. They charge $40 a sack. Most of the...

    Is kegging legal in Utah?

Hey, OP here, 4 years later! Utah did not work out, and after 14 months we escaped! Minnesota is MUCH more beer friendly, and my neighbors are not scandalized if they see me with a beer in my hand. They will even join me on occasion!

Clear Wort, Clear Beer - Tips from Yooper

I have noticed that my hot break increased when I started using fermcap S, or the 5 Star equivalent, to control boil-overs. Any ideas how the addition of silicone effects the coagulation of proteins in the wort?
