    All grain setup. $250

Wifey wants me to clean up the garage :(. Hoping to find a good home for this: High powered triple burner brew stand built by me using a repurposed 80:20 erector set that cost about $15,000 for a work project. High quality needle valves on the gas manifolds for fine grained temp control Set...

    Alloy products pressure vessel

Hi, A friend of mine gave this to me yesterday. Its a ss pressure vessel from a company called alloy products. This is a long shot but does anyone here have experience using these things as fermentors? I'm thinking a pressurized fermentation to reduce esters etc., then cold crash in the...

Anyone tried using breakfast cereal in the mash?

I used a bag of cornflakes in a basic pilsner recipe recently. I used a decoction mash step. Lager came out great. The corn gave it a really nice finish. Think Corona/Sol, but better...

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

I second this! Just last week I tried a bottle that had been sitting for about 7-8 months. I shared it with my wife and we both were amazed at the difference. One of my all time favorites for sure! Worth waiting for!

    New toy coming!

I just bought the 129 dollar generic brand 2-roller mill from Amazon. The one with the blue blastocyst wrapping. The drive shaft broke off the roller after 3lbs of grain, with a small hand held drill at about 180rpm. Going with bc or monster next and hopefully I'll have better luck.

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

Excellent! I was wondering what those emails were about. Thanks a lot! I'll participate for sure :)

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

Winner! But with steel wire, vacuum cleaner handle and dramatic video in place of check. Also, alCophile pm'd me a similar solution.

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions in this thread! I finally had a few minutes to try again. This time I had more success!! Here is a badly made time-lapse video of my crusade against the salad tongs: The solution that finally worked was to thread two wire nooses through a vacuum...

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

Don't try this at home kids. It will drive you nuts! Thank you all for the input!! I'm sure that some of the suggestions here would have worked, but alas, the order in which I tried them was a critical factor. I first tried to hook the loop at the bottom and use the wall contour to close...

Wow, so many great ideas! Thanks for all the responses. I like Jwin's thought on rolling the string around it and pulling. Ill try all the ideas here until one works. Will keep you updated!

Yeah, its too big to flip. I'll try the hanger idea. Wife won't let me go to the pound. Cheers

    Temp Control

I used raspberry pi and a bunch of 1-wire probes, in liquid, in air and ambient outside. The cool thing is you can wire them in series. It is a cheaper, better and more extensible solution imho, but does need some coding (python for me) and wiring geekiness. Nothing youtube cant teach you! I...

Help! My 1y/o kid just shoved a salad tongs into a carboy, backwards.

See attached pic, illustrating price paid for poor supervision of brew equipment, and kids. Any suggestions for removing it without destroying the carboy are welcome!

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

Thanks! I think I did go heavy on the 500L. Will try your suggestion. I worry a bit because the flavor is perfect now. I'll do a taste test on both and report back (eventually) Cheers!

Tips for cleaning a plate chiller

This is what I do and I've never had an issue with off flavors. I have the larger duda chiller (which is awesome btw) . In my opinion the high temps just before chill time are the best option. I also flush with PBW for a few mins after use, but I think this is less critical.

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

I brewed a 10 gal batch of this. Took a corny to a bachelor party and it was a big hit :) One of my best brews to date. Thanks a lot for the recipe. It was definitely on the dark end of the style. Any suggestions on how to lighten up the color with minimal impact on that awesome roastiness at...
