    Whitelabs WLP802 Czech Budejovice

I was curious of how many generations WLP802 has been taken without failure? I’ve currently got a nice, big pitch in a Czech 10° Pilsner, and was planning on using the slurry for two more beers. It got me thinking how many beers can I actually swing from the original pitch of yeast. Thank you!

California FOR SALE -Misc Brewing Equipment

Downsizing a little since moving to the Anvil Foundry System. I used to harvest and cryogenically store yeast so there are a few random items that were utilized in those processes. Small and Lager Test Tubes - $10 6" Thermometer w/1/2 MNPT - $15 12 qt Presto Pressure Cooker - $45 Wide Mouth...

Multi-step starter and yeast generation count

Hi guys, A quick question for you. Let's assume that generation 0 is the initial generation of a fresh yeast package. If I do a two-step starter and then harvest some yeast, is the yeast harvested generation 1 or generation 2 yeast? Thanks, PL

    Yeast harvesting/washing

Always such good advice on here... I use a conical for fermentation that I dry hop in. Can I still harvest the yeast to use again? Will it matter if there are some (I use a hop bag) hop bits in it? Thanks for your input in advance!

Harvesting yeast from commercial Weihenstephan Hefeweizen bottle?

Has anybody successfully harvested yeast from a commercial Weihenstephan Hefeweizen bottle? Or are the bottles sterilized, and harvesting yeast is not possible? I collected the yeast sediment from three bottles, and tried to revive it, but no luck. It simply wouldn't start. There would be a bit...

    Harvesting Wild Yeast

Generally it’s nice to brew with predictable ingredients in controlled conditions. You purchase your ingredients, follow your process, pitch your yeast, and leave your beer in a temperature stable environment. After some time the yeast consumes all the sugars and leaves behind its own flavor...

    Yeast Harvesting: A Novel Approach?

I began washing and harvesting my own yeast about a year ago. I got excited and harvested 4 jars from 4 batches in the first month, leaving me with 16 jars of 4 different yeasts. Since I usually brew twice per month, I had a ton of yeast just sitting in my fridge. After using some of this stored...

    Harvesting from a bottle

I've harvested some yeast from a bottle. I took it from a farmhouse ale I liked. The label says the brewery isolated the yeast from a 17th century piece of furniture. Anyway, I have the yeast working on a Fast Pitch wort, about 1 liter. It was slow to get started. Its been chugging along for...

Harvesting Yeast with Fermzilla - Best Way To Do It?

I just brewed my first beer to go into my Fermzilla and I am a bit befuddled on the best way to capture yeast. My intuition tells me to dump the trub into the collection container a day or so into the ferment, then clean/sanitize/reattach, then dump again when fermentation is pretty much over...

    Redhook Longhammer harvest?

Hey folks I came across a bottle of Redhook Longhammer recently, a rare sight on this side of the pond and bought it on a whim. I assume it’s not bottle conditioned, but I did come across a thread from 2010 where someone had recovered yeast from an unknown Redhook bottle. Has anyone got more...

Yeast harvesting with the auto siphon

Went down to my brew room to get the harvested over build from the previous starter out of the frig to prep for tomorrows brew day. No over build in the frig. In a small mental lapse I had pitched the entire starter into the Chinook IPA. No wonder I had a 6" yeast krausen. Well sanitized auto...

Slow start from repitched frozen yeast

I've been brewing cider for about 3 years and mead for 1 year. My favorite yeast is Nottingham and I decided to start freezing my harvested yeast using the method posted on HBT found here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/freezing-yeast.html This has worked successful for quite a few brews by...
