now that I’m getting back into the hobby I’m curious as to what websites most are using these days for their calculations and such ?
I used Brewer’s friend when I was brewing on a regular basis but lost all info I had saved when subscription ran out .
Just wondering if their all about the same or if there’s a particular one or two out there that makes them the ones to use ,
I never had any problems with
Brewer’s Friend and everything seemed accurate according to the info I provided .
I would like to find one that explains water addition’s (salts) in a easy to follow format & a good addition calculator.
once I get the basics of brewing back down again I’m planning on getting into the water side a little more other than just using a tablet to remove chlorine from tap water

I prefer BrewersFriend
I have also used BruNWater
And the free MashMadeEasy
And the free MpH
And BeerSmith
And others as well. I prefer BrewersFriend, annual cost is minimal. To each their own.

More than likely BrewersFriend is what I’ll use again,
Anymore just about anything you can think of to do with brewing is available on the net somewhere , honestly I think we’re all a bit spoiled with how easy it is to gain info , I have big time respect for the old timers & pioneers of home brewing who had to use trial & error to find out what worked….

I'm not very computer savy and still use BrewersFriend v1.41 for windows program. It was a free download and does not need the internet. Not sure if it's still available to download. It saves all your recipes (unlimited) in an XML file that can be opened in other programs as well. You can add any new grains, adjuncts, hops, or yeast to the program. It also has built in calculators. I still love the software except it doesn't have a mash/sparge calculator. I use https://www.mibrewsupply.com/recipe/mash for that.

Here's a screenshot.

Beersmith has everything I need. There is a steep learning curve and it so completely customizable that it frustrates those who expect a plug and play type of tool. When you get it dialed in though it is dead accurate.

I started with BS1 and found it hella daunting, but back then the gui was truly horrible - but still customizable.
You could have the ribbons across the top, or down the left side - or BOTH, which was the default!
It almost scarred me too deep to really try to "get it" but eventually I broke through that mental wall.
Can't imagine brewing without - or switching to something else...

Cheers!

I use a combo of three.

I build my recipe with brewersfriend, first.

Then I use @VikeMan excel sheet to fine tune everything. His product is very accurate.

Finally I run water chemistry with bru n water.

I am not a huge fan of the subscription model that is prevalent today, but I guess the $15 per year price for BeerSmith is not terrible.

When BeerSmith is said, most people think "outdated desktop application", but I mostly use the web based application. I personally think it has the cleanest user interface of the ones I have tried. I also use the Android app on brew day or when I am on the go (shopping at the store, sharing a recipe at a club meeting, playing with ideas while at work, etc.). I just fire up the desktop application to print out recipe sheets (this is an area where the web version is lacking). I save my recipes to the cloud, so I can access them all from web, mobile and desktop.

Many people seem to love Brewfather. It does seem like a good app ($30/year). It has better integration with 3rd party tools than BeerSmith.

lol! I was still running Office 2011 on the machine I built that year until this year when I (finally!) built a new PC - and bought a legit Office Pro 2021 for $50 :)

Cheers!
