Advice Needed for Adding Fruit to Kettle Soured Gose

I”ve never added fruit to my brews and I’m pretty new to kettle souring, as well. I will be adding some flash frozen (not pasteurized) Pitaya (Dragon Fruit) after my Gose goes terminal. I was thinking since there will be alcohol and low pH at that point just throwing the fruit in without...

Strange Particles in First Kettle Sour

My first attempt at a kettle sour has been quite the journey. My gose recipe is a basic 50/50 pilsner/wheat with salt and coriander along with a little Perle hops. I pre-acidified down to a pH of 4.5 then continued with Wyeast 5335 Lactobacillus which I don’t think was viable since after four...

Why Take so Long to Ferment your Beer?

You've obviously have gotten the memo. Why waste time when you could be drinking your home brew. Unfortunately, like many things in this country brewing dogma prevents many from enjoying life.

Do you really need the 60 minute boil?

You are big scale and home brewers are small scale. Not sure the processes equate.

Do you really need the 60 minute boil?

I've been brewing all styles the past year with 30 min. boils. No caution necessary even with big pilsner grain bills. I've been brewing since the late 80's and I'm now converted to a less is more home brewer. I usually can now do a start to finish all grain in 1.5 hours with no noticeable...

How much starsan have you included in successful batch?

I left around 16 oz in my 2.5 gallon keg recently. If anything it added a nice little zip to my saison.

Is water the most important element of home brewing and what is the best water you ha

All of the numbers are available through the municipality. There usually is a slight difference with each update. I use a combination of Bru'n Water and BeerSmith for adjustments. Not as scientific as most would do but I'm not really that concerned about it.

Is water the most important element of home brewing and what is the best water you ha

My water is very drinkable and changes frequently. The past six months I've been amending my water to better meet particular styles. Unfortunately, I've become obsessed with brewing quickly as possible and skirting most conventional wisdom. So, my last batch went back to straight out of the tap...

    Is this hobby killing us?

I thought about some form of user error. However, the reply received two likes. Not sure how that could happen if I did a self delete.

    Is this hobby killing us?

Test, test; I have nothing else to add to this thread. Just seeing if this reply gets deleted like my other one did a couple of days ago.

    More quick brewing

applescrap, I just want to say thank you for inspiring me to continue with this hobby. I've gone from 5 gallon batches that took 4+ hours to 2.5 that take under 2. Between your ideas and Brulosophy's I've liberated myself from many of the drudgeries that many home brewers feel they must adhere to.

    Brau Supply

Looks as though the mini comes with either a 1500 watt or 2000 watt element. Usually, more is better but with my usual 4 + gallon full volume not sure. I can easily run a dedicated 20 amp GCFI protected circuit but would rather not. What do you think?

    Brau Supply

Yeah my reference to KISS is based on my past five years of BP, cooler and propane. To me that is simple except for having get the propane. I also got tired of (for me that's not simple) five gallon batches. Thus, my 2.5 gallon routine has made brewing more enjoyable. I am used to being able to...

    Brau Supply

If you were exclusively brewing 2.5 gallon batches and wanted to go as KISS as possible, would you recommend this system or induction with a cooler? In the past six months I've converted my equipment to small batches but still use propane. I'm ready for the final switch to indoors but stuck...

    Small Batch Fermentation Issue

Thanks. I usually just let things go that don't seem right and they always work out OK. That's with my long used set up. Changing it up had me thinking. Plus, the beer in the carboy was mashed at 156. So, attenuation is expected to be low anyway.

    Small Batch Fermentation Issue

I recently scaled down to 2.5 gallon batches. The first one went into my usual 6.5 gallon bucket with SafAle S-04. So, also as usual, I couldn’t see what was going on except at the lock. The action at the lock did seem odd (weak) but I paid no attention to it and I haven’t checked it out. A week...

I Too Have a Spa Panel Question

Thanks. I assume 10/4 SOOW would be appropriate for the output since the circuit is still only 30A regardless of the 50A breaker? This is all pretty annoying since I have room in my main box for a clean 4 wire run. The problem there is it's in my garage with no water/drainage. My utility room is...

I Too Have a Spa Panel Question

Thanks. I was under the impression that it would meet code since it’s a dedicated circuit and the main box commingles earth grounds and neutrals, as well.

I Too Have a Spa Panel Question

First, I must apologize for resurrecting this topic. I've looked at most of the spa panel threads and all of the ones that seem to pertain to my needs no longer have photos. My dedicated dryer circuit terminates with a non-grounded 10-30R receptacle (H-H-W). Does anyone (P-J?) know how this...
