    Homebrewers in Germany

Yes Ramstein AB. I've spent a lot of time there and I'm unimpressed with their pilsners. I suppose if I were to drink one, the ones in Germany are more fresh. IMHO, the good German beers, bocks and Baltic Porters are nowhere to be found in Rheinland-Pfalz, even Baden-Württemberg. That's ok...

    Homebrewers in Germany

I'll be moving to the Ramstein area of Germany in April and I'm looking to connect with local brewers before I move. I heard there was a closed group on Facebook called D.R.A.F.T., but I couldn't find it. Any recommendations?

    Apple purée

I've been all-grain brewing for a couple of years, but have never attempted a cider. I have a friend who sells apple purée commercially, and I'm wanting to use it for my first attempt at a cider. This is not a juice concentrate, rather a first press of the fruit. None of the recipes call for...

    Beersmith 2.0 equipment set-up

I brew with a 1/2 barrel keg (15.5 gallons) and mash with a 70 quart cooler. When I try to set up my equipment on Beersmith, there are many choices, but none for my set-up. I'm not sure that "close enough" works. If I have a recipe and change the equipment, it can make a major difference. It...

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

I've seen new pin lock post from China, but I have no idea the quality.

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

Clearly, I need to rethink my motto, "just get a bigger hammer".

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

So that helps, the threads aren't the same, but there are conversion kits going from pin-lock to ball-lock, but not ball-lock to pin-lock? Therein lies the question, considering the post design per se, is the pin-lock post not a better design since it won't allow accidental gas/liquid lines...

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

If the threads are different, how do people convert pin-lock kegs with ball-lock post? For reference, I'm just talking about Coke & Pepsi corny kegs. Thank you for clarifying a simple point, I had given up.

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

I'm really not sure how this is lost in translation, but I'll try again. If you replace OLD ball-lock post on OLD kegs with NEW pin-lock post, then your chances of leaks is drastically diminished. I've never said one is inherently less prone to leaks.

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

If you replace the used ball lock post with new pin lock post, then your likelihood of leaks is drastically reduced.

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

Judging from the experience of myself and many other home brewers, many used kegs you find on the market leak. The vast majority of those leaks are from the post or one of its components. What else can leak, the lid? Sure, but not nearly as often. I'll check out the Chi Company, thanks!

Pin-lock post on a ball lock keg

I've recently started kegging and I went with what was available at the time, pin-lock kegs. I plan to build a keezer and will be able to fit one more ball-lock kegs than pin-lock kegs, so I'm thinking about switching. I really like the pin-lock design, i.e., no chance of accidentally...

Belgian style, adding more yeast prior to bottling

Belgian beers present a unique set of challenges, particularly if you try to use many of the traditional techniques. Many of these styles require the use of added sugars, some do so at the end of the boil, others during secondary. The later will provide the sugar for the added yeast. A good...

Belgian style, adding more yeast prior to bottling

I was reading (can't remember where) that some Trappist abbeys will pitch more yeast prior to bottling. This is why you should use thicker European bottles because of higher carbonation. If I were to add more yeast, I think I would repitch. However, how much yeast and how would I do a...
