    07.07.07 - Version II

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this WLP007? I think we should go with a moderate rye flavor... to allow it to stand out as a "rye beer" but not so much as to detract from everything else going on in the brew. 2-3 lbs of rye malt in a 1.070 beer sound about right. Rye malt can convert...

70-quart Maxcold Ice Cube for MLT?

I would recommend taking a look at the spigot on the 'Cube. I've got a standard Ice Cube, and I tried putting a bulkhead / SS braid in it, and the angle cause the braid to stick up at a 45 degree angle, so there was a LOT of tun space that I couldn't drain with a braid. Chances are, if you...

    Mash out

That is absolutely the way to mash out if you don't have direct heat. In a typical 10-12 lb grain bill, I'll mash in with about 1.25 qts/lb, and dump in another gallon of near-boiling water to mash out for about 15 minutes. Generally my mash-out is right around 168 with this method (assuming...

Stuck sparge with SS braid ? *mad*

Home Depot sells a SS Toilet supply line, for much cheaper than the washer line or other lines I saw. It was mixed in with a lot of plastic lines, but just read the packaging carefully and make sure it says "Stainless" and not "Polymer" or some other word for plastic.

A timing question simple (I think)

Depends on the brew. If it's not a high-gravity brew, go ahead and transfer. If it's a big beer, or something you need to lager (doesn't sound like it based on the 60's degree ferm temps), you might wait. There's no harm in doing either, though. What yeast are you using?. Your temps are at...

decrease carbonation if you use secondary fermintation?

I don't know if this is your case or not, but higher ABV% brews will naturally take longer to carbonate. I had a red ale that I used honey in the boil, and made it more alcoholic than my other brews. After 3 1/2 weeks it still hadn't carbonated really at all, and I just figured I screwed...

    Stuck Ferment?

Nah, it's not too critical unless you're in a hurry. It's nice to see if your beer is done, but they sometimes cause more headache than they're worth. I always log my hydro readings in my journal, but don't take a whole lot of stock in them. I forget who, but someone around here always says that...

Okay guys...my Sanyo 4912 is half way there

Had one other thought... What issues, if any, are there with the holes you drilled not being airtight. Do you lose much cooling out the holes and/or does it run all the time? Would it be practical and worth one's time to find a couple grommets to snug the holes up some?

Okay guys...my Sanyo 4912 is half way there

So you're just using the basic "party" tap right away then, right? Real nice setup, and great pics! I know most people build towers on these... but is there any known issues with installing shanks and faucets thru the doors like you see on larger refrigerators? It probably wouldn't be...

    Potential new brewer needs help

I didn't drink a whole lot of beer before I started homebrewing. I would buy the occasional 6-pack of Bass or Guinness, or SNPA, or something... depending on what I was in the mood for. I got into it as a hobby that I could tinker with and work with for the rest of my life. I had no idea all the...
