    New CO2 regulations to come

Well, the government has decided that CO2 is now a poisonous gas. Guess what? This stuff will soon be regulated and you'll have to have a license to buy it and transport it. Transportation should fall under the consumer commodity rule, but you have to buy it first. Unless you got a...

    foaming through gas line

Finally was able to get back on this board. The "powers that be" had this site blocked, but for some reason and I'm not complaining, I can access it again so let me ask this question that's got be all confused. After two weeks in the primary, I rack to keg and it sits out anywhere from 3 to 5...

    Critique this method

Curious as to what is the worse that could happen. I tried this method a couple of weeks ago and the wort/fermenting and everything else seems normal. Shaved off about an hour of brewing time, which was the reason for trying this method out in the first place. This is for extracts only...

    Interested in NHC, but wow........

I'm sure I'm not alone asking these questions. I did scan over the BJCP website but wow, after reading all that, I feel intimidated. I'm just curious how one of the brews I have "perfected" via friend feedback over the years will stack up. Geesh, I had no idea there were so many different...

Not sure exactly what I need....

I need some backup parts after this weekend. Cleaned my cobra tap hose and put it all back together. However, the little black O ring that fits on the connection to the keg got "lost" in the cleaning. When I connected it back up, well, you can imagine the shower of brew. I did manage to find...

    fermentor leaking...problem????

Got a leak somewhere in the fermentor. Tried new lid and seal, but still leaking. However, I'm still using it for fermenting but the bubbler won't bubble. Where I use it and store it in the pantry, I can smell the brew and know that it's fermenting. I've read in the past of similar...

    extract kits, order up???

After reading some of the increased hop price threads and other news on the subject from internet sources, seems like this is really, really going to be a problem in the very near future. Already seeing it with some kits over at AHS. So, I was wondering for those of you that use kits. You...

Wow. Big difference keg vs. bottle

Since my Sooners were off this weekend, I decided to do some of my home brew comparisons. Had about 4 different styles I have been working on and much to my amazement, the bottled brew ALL tasted far better than the kegs. These were all conditioned the same way. I mean, they even smelled so...

Will this idea work for cooling?

Maybe it's me or the water temperature isn't right. I use a IC to chill the wort inside the keggle after boiling. Hook up the hose and run the water just enough so that the temperature exiting the IC is pretty hot. However, it seems like it take forever to get the wort down to 80F or so...

For those that have a leaky fermentor...

Was wondering, have you had any noticeable ill effects? Somehow my fermentor bucket got to close to the banjo burner and wrapped it some. Lid still seals good and everything, but it leaks just enough that there is no bubbling coming out of bubbler. Brew still taste good and all, but I was...

Got a one gallon jug of apple juice

Was winterizing the boat Sunday and realized I got a gallon of apple juice sitting in the refrigerator that I use for keeping drinks and snacks cool. This is really new to me, but is there a yeast I could simple add to this and just let it sit all winter and try it out next spring? I guess...

    seperating hops

In my definite wisdom, I had decided to use a hop bag for my bittering and finishing hops. But, sometimes the hop bag is a pain in the arshe to clean so I looked around some more. Came across a 3 inch stainless steel mesh ball, I guess something akin to a tea strainer. Works really great...

How do you get extract out of a large tub?

Been thinking about buying extract LM by the bulk. Having used the 3.3 lbs in the past, how do you keep from making a mess when you take some of the syrup out of a large drum?

Question from article on Brew Magazine

I've read this a lot in the past while on the forum but it came up again while reading the article "On the Boil", page 55, this months Brew magazine. It briefly describes that larger proteins and polyphenols seperate from attached water molecules and collect together. This results in hot break...

    Muntons vs. Nottinghams

Got three Brewers Best kits in yesterday. I've used them a lot in the past but this time all three came with Muntons dry yeast, formerly these exact recipes included Nottinghams. I picked these three as my favorites and was wondering what kind of difference would I taste? I got backup packs...

Got to get a new bucket....

I had surgery two weeks ago and let me stay home for a couple of weeks and finally got to catch up with my brewing. However, once I placed my fermenting 5 gal bucket too close to the banjo cooker to try and stop air drafts from it. Sure enough, wouldn't you know it, the side closes to the...

    Pitching death????

Need some advice. I've done about ten brews and this is a first. I got no bubbler activity 48 hours after pitching. The only thing different this time around was that I'm using Coopers dry yeast. I did rehydrate for about 11 minutes. I used my IC but I didn't take a thermometer reading, it...

    San Antonio brewing tour

I've heard about this, but can't find anything on it. Is there a tour of a brewery somewhere in San Antonio? I'll be there from 5/8 to 5/12. Would like to try and squeeze in a tour if possible, but I'll have my 3.5 year old and don't know if I can find the time.
