Having some of SWMBO's family in from #3 this past weekend, THIS explains a LOT why I slept most of the day Sunday... :drunk:

Haha, I thought Hmm America's drunkest city...gotta be Milwaukee! Sure enough!

Seriously, we used to have 12-barrel parties in college and cram enough people in a basement and first floor to make the last barrel spit.

Think the East-Side of Milw. would be the drunkest "side"?

There all freaking cold places in the winter accept for Austin (which is in Texas...;)).

I am a little surprised Fuquay-Varina didn't make the list, but I guess they missed me with the sample set....

Drunkest Cities

1. Milwaukee

You expected less from us?

  • Home of Miller, Pabst, Schlitz, and Blatz, Freodhert Malt, and we have our very own yeast factory? Briess Malt is right up the highway and the countless other breweries in the state
  • Our baseball team is the Brewers.
  • I'm willing to bet more beer is consumed here then water and Schnaps and Brandy are probably 2 and 3 on the most consumed liquid list. (we are also the worlds leading Brandy consumers)
  • In the older parts of town it's not uncommon to see a tavern on every block (usually someone's converted living room).
  • Here if you only have 1 beer a month you must be a mormon, quaker, or muslim or someother group that doesnt drink.
  • 5 or more drinks on one occasion is just warming up if ya are down on Water St. or at one of the local summer festivles
  • With our tax rate here you have to drink and party, otherwise all you would do is cry
  • In the winter we dont even consider it alchohol, it's antifreeze
  • It keeps us from shooting all the F.I.B.'s
  • How else do you explain electing 3 Socialist mayors, our current Senators and our Govenor?
When I was a kid I remember going downtown with my dad to the Brwery Credit union early inthe morning then over to Schiltz to pick up his free beer (plant of the month always got 2 cases of free beer and his plant was always the plant of the month) and complaining about the smell of all the malt, yeast, and wort. . . now I hover over my brew kettle and sniff my carboys and heading down to Miller Valley just because I'm bored.

Now if we just had a distillery or 2 I could die a happy man and never worry about the afterlife because I would have already been in heaven.

See now, I thought their definition of 'heavy drinker' was a bit crazy. 2 drinks a day is a 'heavy drinker'. Hell, aren't their medical studies that say that a couple drinks (usually wine) a night is GOOD for you?

I also thought it might be interesting to see the questions asked. I know that there are regional differences in how people talk about things (or dont' talk about things) and it might be interesting to see if the questons are subtly slanted to midwesterners.

Agree completely with everything Pumbaa says. Milwaukee's festivals alone count for most any other large cities yearly beer consumption. Anyone have stats on how much beer flows at Summerfest?

Other Milw. Breweries I can think of are Sprecher, Lakefront, another new-ish one I can't think of. And a brand new brewery I've heard rumors of...Milwaukee Brewing Co.

Forbes should visit Anchorage in the winter. We might not be big enough to qualify as a major metropolis, but I'll be per capita we consume just as much alcohol. Bars--we got 'em. Drunks--we got 'em. DUIs--we lead the nation. I'm not proud of it, but I'm sure if it were investigated, we'd be up there. What else is there to do?

Yee-Hah! We're #1! Actually, I know I don't live in Milwaukee, but an hour north is close enough in this case!.

I agree with Pumbaa and Korkob. Two beers a day makes a "heavy drinker?" Hell, it takes a six pack just to warm up before going to the bars! And five drinks is "binge drinking"? Nuh-uh. Binge drinking is when you wake up naked next to some fat chick and you hope to hell nobody saw you leave with her and you REALLY hope she doesn't know your name and/or phone number! :drunk:

They gotta stop letting MADD do these damned surveys!:cross:
