HERMs Control Box Construction

Just wondering...is there ANY reason NOT to make a control box out of something other than a NEMA enclosure or something along those lines?

I had planned on using a 12" x 12" NEMA enclosure, but now I'm thinking of just building the control box out of wood and make it integrated with the stand/structure. I know the concern about splashing or spilling liquid, but is that the only issue to be worried about?

There is no reason you can't use wood other than the obvious "can it handle the amount of heat where you mount it".

I believe the main reason for the NEMA is for the water proof aspect. No matter what you do to the wood it won't be as liquid resistant as the NEMA, and as much as you are going to spend on control components the idea of it zapping out because of liquid the NEMA just makes sense.
