I have this old Igloo refrigerator that I converting into a lagering box.

The other night I took it apart to clean it and didn't find a compressor. The refrigerator appears to have three parts: a heat sink, a fan and a control unit. It works fine, got down into the 30's overnight.

I have two questions -
  1. Can someone explain how this unit cools?
  2. Does anyone see a problem with running the unit on its back? It doesn't have a compressor and the heat sink is on the top of the refrigerator (not on the back).

Should be fine for lagering. Peltier coolers need good air flow on the hot side, but that's the only consideration.
