Hey yall I have some whole leaf east kent Golding hops and was wondering if anyone has a recipe for a all kent Golding's beer? I'm thinking saison or stout... Thanks.

Why not a decent bitter would seem the natural choice

8lbs Maris Otter
0.5 lb crystal 75
Mash 152
Ibu's 25

A good charge at flame out, dry hop as well

EKG are great for dry hopping. I think the bitter idea is good but I'd run 30-35 IBU.

Have an English IPA single Kent Golding fermenting right now

OG 1.065
IBU 50ish
SRM 11

14.5# Golden Promise
0.75# Crystal 90

Mash 152F 60min

FWH 1oz EKG
75min 1oz EKG (90min boil)
15min 2oz EKG
10Day 3oz EKG

WLP007

Brewed on Saturday, could post on it later if your interested.

I use EKG only in many of my beers. My house Ordinary Bitter and my house Mild both use ONLY East Kent Goldings. EKG only will work for almost any English style of beer. I did an EKG/Maris Otter SMaSH English IPA recently that's quite good (for a SMaSH beer at least, I was just experimenting with some techniques I hand't done before, like first wort hopping).

What do you think about a EKG only Oatmeal stout?

Go for it. Unless I'm going for a lot of hop character I often use EKG only. My Robust Porter, Oatmeal Stout, Sweet Stout, Dry Stout, etc, all EKG only.

Its a pretty subtle and versatile hop, you really can't go wrong. You may want to use a low flavor bittering hop for your 60 min addition just to keep the hop sludge down in your brews. I often do this with Warrior.

Check Ron Pattison's book. There are original recipes that had up to 20oz of EKG in the boil (mainly pale ales but stouts are heavily hopped too). Plus then you add dry hops.
