leaking sanke

So I bought a sanke coupler for a "going away" party for friends. We bought a keg of local craft beer. Anyways, the gas in connection, every time I tighten the nut, it squishes the rubber gasket down into the hole, thus CO2 leaks. I have used plenty of keg lube in this sucker. Im not overtightening, as this happens with barely any force. Any suggestions?
 
I'm guessing you either have the gasket in the wrong place, or are missing the check valve piece.

Number 10 on the diagram is the check valve. Some check valves have more of a flat saucer shape, but the duckbill style shown in the diagram is much more common. The rubber gasket (not shown) should go in between the tailpiece and the check valve (part #'s 10 & 11).
