I am going to make an irish red kit with a little bit of rye for st patrick"s day. Thought about putting some garlic in it.

Anyone done that? When and how much to add?

I've seen a couple recipes that use garlic, varying from 3 to 6 cloves per 5 gallons.
I would chop up a head of garlic and steep it in some hot water for a couple of days ( I use this when making venison sausage). Then you can judge how much of the water to put in by tasting it and you'll have alot less to clean out of the carboy.
