Been a while since I posted. I was cleaning my brewing gear with near-caustic (diswasher detergent) at about 200F. The return hose slipped out of the kettle and shot me in the leg with some hot caustic. The liquid went through my polyester running pants and accumulated on my (cotton) socks. By the time I removed the sock and hosed my leg down, the damage was done.

It hurt some when it happened but apparently the nerve endings were damaged... so not much pain after affect.

Ouch. Get some silver sulfate for that quick.

You now have a good beer story, and possibly a catchy name for that brew.

My arms can attest to that stuff working to heal those kinda wounds.

One of my house beers........ "2nd Degree Saison"

Hope it heals soon!!

The silver stuff only liquified the scab... After talking to a virologist friend (also a homebrewer), he suggested to let it dry naturally and keep an eye for infection. It's looking well now, of course there's a scar (probably for life) and a small divot, but it's looking quite healthy otherwise.

Wow- that must have really hurt!

I wasn't using caustic, but accidentally shot near boiling water at my chest. I jumped out of my clothes as fast as I could, but I have a scar on my left boob as a result.

I was passivating my kettles a few months ago with near boiling citric acid solution. I needed to open my kettle valve to get the solution into the valve and just before doing it thought I'd better put my gloves on. Opened valve and massive spurt of steam raced out and went onto my glove. If I hadn't done that I would have massive burns on my arm. Always pays to be careful!

Actually it hurt right when it happened but after a couple minutes, I barely felt anything. Nerve endings were probably gone.
