- scored 38 pts for 2nd place in 2009 HBT BJCP competition
This is the 2nd year brewing this recipe. It is based on Yuris thunderstruck pumpkin ale. This beer has won 2nd place in two competitions, scoring a 38 in the 2009 HBT competition, and scoring 39.5 in the 2008 Lancaster Brewers Showdown.
I used 73 oz of pumpkin in the mash, that was roasted in a 350 oven until caramelized. Allow the pumpkin to cool to room temp prior to mashing so it doesn't mess with your mash temp. With a pound of rice hulls it was still a difficult sparge, but never actually got stuck.
Mash at 153 for 60 minutes
keg at 3 weeks, and don't touch it for at least a month more.
