    Midwest Supplies

I'll have to mirror everyone's thoughts. I've ordered and had friends order from Midwest and every time has been flawless. Great group of people! Sbeltz: Thank you for the service you do for our country!

Besides homebrewing, what stuff do you like to produce from scratch?

Love to cook aside from making homebrew. I also enjoy making mustard (stupid simple), making smoking / tobacco pipes from briar blocks and minor woodworking stuff as well. :D

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I am going to do an ESB-esque ale in the AM and then a buddy is coming over to do an Oktoberfest-ale-thingy in the PM. :rockin:

New brewers.Stop trying to doctor your beer !

I've got a BIL that believes in adding pounds of table sugar, brown sugar, etc., to his beer because he has this belief that it adds awesomeness to his beers. But he never can figure out why the end up tasting horrible..

Blonde Ale Miller Lite (Really Triple Hopped)

Sorry if I missed this somehow, I did read through. How would this work with a different hop, such as Amarillo or such? Obviously would have to tame the Amarillo down more so its not overpowering.

    What are you drinking now?

'Ryan's Face-Puncher' IPA KIT from Northern Brewer. Delicious.

    North Peak Diabolical IPA

Yep - that other Jolly Pumpkin is down in Dexter area somewhere; i've heard its much better than the Northern Michigan offering. Shorts is simply amazing. Joe is a beer nut and a mad innovator at that. Visit the brewpub sometime, they have a lot of eclectic offerings that don't make it out...

New allgrain BREWER in Traverse city MI

Welcome to the club! I'm also from Traverse City!

    North Peak Diabolical IPA

I live in Traverse City, so I think I can comment on the aforementioned. :cross: The 'North Peak' line of beers is actually made by Jolly Pumpkin, which they have a brewery out on Old Mission Penninsula (And Dexter, MI I believe). Most of their beers are pretty solid, nothing too exceptional...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

I'm a slacker. I've done 15 gallons combined since the beginning of the year: 6009! (Belgian IPA, Oktoberfest, Belgian Tripel)

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Haven't browsed through the whole thread, but a few off hand: Shorts Spruce: IPA, or something like that. Tasted like a Christmas tree, really.. Shorts Wizard: Straight up raisin and poo. Ugh. Wild Blue: TERRIBLE! Hurricane High Gravity: Needed to get the job done after a bad day, ended up...

    Simcoe hops

My only experience thus far has been a combination of Simcoe and Amarillo in an IPA / Pale I made. I think the keg lasted 3 weeks? Needless to say, it was forking delicious.

    1st All-Grain - Disaster?

I'm sorry to say, but my 2 pennies would say dump it. Sure, it sucks, but its well worth the peace of mind if you dump it vs. the risk of injuring yourself / someone if something freakish happens. Chalk it up to a learning experience. I know we've all had one in the world of homebrewing.

    Few Grains in wort??

Not 100% sure what other people do, but i've generally used a paint strainer into the kettle to filter out the remaining grains that my vorlauf may miss. You generally don't want to boil husk / grain as they can often lead to tannin and off flavor. As it stands now, all you can really do is...

    Adding beano?

+1 on not adding Beano. Beano will ferment your beer very, very dry and continues to eat away sugars to the detriment. You're better off doing something like a session beer: Orfy's Mild Manner ale comes to mind. Biermuncher also has several nice session ales.

    I LOVE South Texas!

Glad you're having fun! I've got quite a bit of family down in the Beaumont area and we've taken several trips down there. The people are always extremely friendly, there's tons to do and its nice and warm. (I'm a Michigander myself!) Love Texas - always had a good time. The lizards...

    YEOW! (Warning: somewhat Gross)
