I'm watching episode 3 of Dad's Army, 1968.
The receptionist is told she can leave early, on her way out the door she calls out TTFN!
Maybe girls have always done this, the internet is not solely to blame?
TTFN BRB YOLO!

TTFN popularized in the 40's due to a female character on a British radio show. I've always thought it was Tigger but Paul Winchell's third wife (he voiced Tigger, she was British) inspired him to add the phrase to his work on the series, also in 1968.

The cheeky Brits strike again

Must be the cheeky Brits again...

Speaking of SPAM....one of my mother's signature dinners growing up was a loaf of that questionable meat product baked in a glaze concocted of brown sugar and mustard. Yes we were lower middle-class growing up. I can still smell, and taste it, in horrified memory. Haven't touched the stuff in over 45 years.

Also not much money in the family growing up, but I never had to suffer that indignity. I do remember having to drink powdered skim milk. Did have brown sugar & mustard glazed ham many times, garnished with cloves poked into the outside of the ham.

Brew on :mug:

An old friend of mine surprised me one day with his rant about how good Spam was and his raving about how they had several additional flavors now!

I still haven't tried any of the new flavors, the original still dwells in my memory from my childhood ...

I love spam. I slice it right in the can, eat it s slab at a time. Of course, it's way better fried, but when you open the can and get that smell you just have to dive in. And, powdered milk is just fine if you mix it and wait a day. The wait is key.
Ahh, I remember the Carnation powdered milk too. I don't recall waiting improving the mouth feel or taste though

I've tried a bunch of the flavors. None of them were as good as the original. "Spam" stands for "spice ham".

One of my chores as a kid was making up the milk with the powder and water. We'd then goose it up by adding some real milk to the mix as well.

I hated that stuff! Mum thought mixing it with the fresh milk would make the milk go further. You'd pour it on your Weetbix and you could tell it wasn't real milk and just throw the whole lot away and have toast! We used to tip the rest of it down the sink. Better to have no milk than that stuff!

I like it too. I'll take some crackers and a tin of spam to bed and cut slices off while it's still in the tin. Luckily my wife is a heavy sleeper!
